Exercise Suggestions

Options
I seriously need to move more but I am in so much pain with my back right now that I can barely stand and/or walk. Any suggestions for exercises that will burn fat while sitting on your behind? Due to see specialist in a few weeks but would like to get started now. Thanks. P.S. I can't do a bike as the injury to my back is L4 - L6 so the seat stresses that area.

If you have access to an indoor pool, gentle movement in the water might help. Check out YouTube videos for seated workouts.

Was going to suggest you tube chair exercises and also stretches in bed. Right after surgery I just played with a theraband while sitting in my recliner, stretching whatever I could stretch without pain.

You might find that some YouTube videos of chair exercises would be achievable for you . . . you could skip specific moves in the video that look risky for you.

Can you ask your doctor for a referral to a physical therapist to help you identify an achievable, safe routine? That would be ideal.

Getting some exercise is a great thing for strength and health, but it's not essential for weight loss. If necessary, weight loss can happen entirely by adjustments on the eating side of the equation.

I hope you're able to find an approach that improves things for you!

Look up recipes that include anti-inflammatory ingredients. It can make a big difference in how you feel.

Doing yoga stretches can help. Yoga can loosen up your joints and tendons and can also burn calories. You can find many easy yoga moves that won't over stress your back. Look on Youtube.

Check out YouTube for some chair yoga sessions. And you'll be checking with your doctor and may be able to get some PT sessions.

I have implemented two yoga stretches. Cobra pose and child pose. These two simple stretches will release all the tension in your spine. They work wonders for me and my back.

How about lifting some weights whilst seated?

Please check with your specialist first, but I have had great luck using an underdesk elliptical (just the pedals of bike) as an arm bike--it sits on the kitchen table and I do it while looking out the window at the yard. If it is safe to do, it can help with core strength and toning in a surprisingly short time. Again, PLEASE don't do anything that causes harm! best wishes
