 You know , I walked 2 miles today , and I am very proud of that because I am usuallly so sedintery ( that is a lie.....most often and more times than not rings afar more true). It was not so bad honestly..... since I had my "Headphones.....MP3....Player" with me ! It truely helped the time pass so fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Any ways, my motivation to those that want help with begining to walk , (altho it may be the starting of up and down one block at a time) is that if you love music as much as I...... Then put on those headphones and just head out. It is pretty awesome the amount the few miles that will pass unaware !!! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:   This is for all of us that are not "PERFECT". Thank-You...:blushing: ...neome90....:blushing:

I couldn't agree more, I love walking, with or without music, never used to walk to the local shop, let alone walk a mile, but now I walk 5+ miles 3 times a week :drinker:

I am a walker, too! It's pretty much the only exercise I do. I started out with around the block, and now I can do 5 miles at 3mph. I got very bored with my neighborhood, so now I drive and walk someplace interesting. This summer will there will be some backpacking trips! If you want to get motivated to walk...get a HRM that calculates distance walked and calories burned! <chest strap models are better because they give you real time heart rates. I use a Garmin GPS enabled unit that is great!>

I'm a power-walker, and I've had my share of comments and strange looks, but it's the only exercise I like. And I can only get started with Kathy Smith walking types - very early '90's .

If music isn't your thing, or corny motivational cheering like my girl Kathy, I've also walked to books on tape and language tapes. Then I feel like I"m being productive, instead of feeling like I should be doing something else. Now that spring is coming, it's the perfect time!
  • I, too, experience a joy with getting out and walking after sitting around for years. I try now to get out and walk everyday. I am hoping to win an IPod at work so I can take my music a long with me.

walking is still hands down favorite exercise (started when i was 15 and i'm now 37). i just love the rhythm of it, and the quiet. in fact, i get a little testy with my daughter when she's in the stroller yapping away at me. we used to have a dog and walking him every day was my responsibility. i loved that time, even when it was cold or snowy or rainy. obviously, i miss him and our walks. (just not time for a new dog right now)
oh, i'm getting sappy. time to turn in.
in any case, good job on your walking accomplishment! :flowerforyou:
