Hi, when i want to eat Rice or Noodles, how do i the weigh out?
Let's say i want to eat 100 g Rice, should i weigh out before i cooked the rice or after i cooked the rice?
Because uncooked it is i think 350 kcal and after cooking it drops to 150 kcal?
Same goes for Noodles.
Regards

Record the uncooked weight. Cooking them adds an unknown amount of water weight.2

Lots of food absorbs water during cooking. Thus
100gr dry rice = 350kcal
this becomes about 230gr cooked rice because it has absorbed water.
100gr cooked rice has about 150kcal
but your 100gr dry, and now 230gr cooked rice still has 350kcal.
Hence it's important to chose correct database entries. With food such as this it's always best to weight dry and use a dry weight database entry because the amount of water absorbed depends on the type of cooking. The same of course is also true for pasta, couscous and lots of other things.
Btw, if you have fresh pasta that are not solid but wobbly use the information on the packaging. They will still absorb some water, but they are neither dry nor cooked.2 -
