The lower the BMI the easier it is for the skin to contract.

I read online that the lower the BMI the easier it is the the skin to contract after dramatic weight loss, loss of close to 100 lbs or more.
Does any one have any experience with this?

Do you mean low Body fat%? I am not sure what BMI would have to do with skins elasticity, where did you get that info, I would be interested in reading it.0

I'm confused too. I don't think BMI would have anything to do with skin. Maybe like erickirb said, body fat %?0 -
yes that is what I meant, I assumed a lower body fat mean a lower BMI.

No they are very different you could have a BMI of 40 and a low body fat % such as 7% as with a male bodybuilder, or you could have lets say a woman that has a BMI of 19 (low end of healthy) yet have a BF% as high as 30% (skinny fat) usually caused by too fast weight loss with lack of strength training and not enough protein.0 -
I feel that more exercise during weight loss would lead to both a lower BMI and less loose skin. This has been my strategy. When I first started. I had more than 100 pounds to lose. I tried to lose just by exercising and it didn't work. With MFP I am losing but slowly. Exercise is high priority for me. It is said that 85% of weight loss is diet but if you follow that you will lose but your % of fat may not decrease. So far my skin seems to shrinking with me. I attribute this to 2 things slow weight loss and lots of exercise. You can do the exercise during or at the end but I prefer to do it as I lose.0

i agree with the statement that if you have a lot of weight to loose then you should be excerising as well...
i have lost 85lbs so far and see very little loose skin...
i know a few people who have also lost lots of weight but with diet alone and their skin is terrible...unable to wear short sleeve shirts and stuff like that....
if you are going to do this, then do it right...a healthy diet and regular exercise are the two main keys in a long and healthy life, they are also the keys to long term weight loss so the sooner you get both of them working together the better, and the easier it will be for you...0 -

oh thanks for asking this. i've been really worried about loose skin. years ago between my son and daughter i lost like forty pounds, pretty much all i had gained during the pregnancy and i was just a bag of skin. i used jenny craig and working out wasn't really my priority. this time it really is because in addition to losing weight i'm concerned about my heart since my family has a history of early heart problems. so i hope that helps the sack of skin this time around. by the way, i didn't know there was a difference between those two things either lol0

I go to a weightloss clinic and my Dr and nutritionist both told me that as I lose I want to make sure I'm getting plenty of protein as that helps with the skin as I lose weight.0
