I have never had the attention span to workout at home (there are so many distractions!) and I've never been an outdoors girl! Sooo the gym is great for me because getting up and going somewhere helps get me on track plus I feel guilty if I doing don't use that $$$ membership!

I pretty much just do the bike or elliptical at the gym though cause all the other equipment is kinda intimidating. (Can't treadmill, bad knee) so I thought if I saw what things others were doing it would motivate me to try new equipment!

Soo...What is your gym routine?

I take BodyPump (group fitness class) 2-3 times a week.
Sometimes I take Spinning class (at least once a week).
I run (outside or TM) 4 days a week.
I also do a kettlebell and weight/strength training workout 2 times a week.

I have bad knees too! So I use the Cross Trainer, Recumbant bike and I walk on the treadmil. Walking isn't too bad and you can make it harder but easlier on your knees if you walk on a slight incline!!

    Hope that helps!!

i see a lot of women doing spinning, and zumba, and body pump.. all that stuff is really good!!!

dont be scared to do a little strength training.. strength training can keep your metabolism going hard up to 48 hours after your workout!!! just take it slow, and light weight at first.. best of luck to you!

I kind of got in a rut like that. I started with the incline treadmill. got bored and started exploring. I decide one day that I needed to try new things at the gym. Things that were scary looking. The stairmaster, the rowing machine and this one machine that counter balances your weight so you can do pull ups, chin ups and other things I dont know the name of. I love them all and now I have gym ADD. If you dont know how something works, ask a trainer, try it once and if you dont like it, dont ever do it again.

Currently I run 2x a week (outside, rain or shine) and go to the gym 2x a week. On gym days, I do a 3-5 minute cardio warmup (usually treadmill), then hit the weight machines for a circuit of 3 sets, hitting all the major muscle groups. If I'm up for it, I move to the elliptical or bike for a short session of intervals before stretching.

I would get on the stair climber for the first 15 minutes to warm up. Then I would lift weights. I work upper and lower body on alternate days. I'll then get on the elliptical for another 30 minutes. I'll do Step Class once a week and Spin class twice a week. On these days I would just do 15 minutes of cardio warmup before I start the class. Doing different workouts actually motivate me to go to the gym everyday. I don't feel stuck doing the same routine day in and day out.

My advice for you would be to set up an apt with one of the people that work their to show you how to use the other equipment. Most gyms offer this initial service as part of your gym membership they will go with you to each machine and sho you how to get it set up how to do the exercise and where you whould be feeling the exercise. The very first time I signed up with a gym I was totally intimidated by all the weight machines but I just asked if someone could show me how to use them and they did for free!

AFM I have been using a trainer at my gym once a week and she gives me a routine to do every week and on the days in between I do cardio. the exercises change every week but basically it goes like this first a quad exercise (top of thigh) then a hamstring exercise ( back of thigh) then a chest, then a back, then I do an interval which works the whole body and end with two exercises for the abs one that targets the upper and one that targets the lower. Takes about an hour to do the whole thing.

I'm boring. I do the elliptical 5-6 times a week for an average of an hour, then do the arc trainer or treadmill for 15-30 more minutes. I am trying to mix things up and have gone to Zumba, but I'm just so comfortable with the routine I have going. I know my body will eventually get used to this and hit a plateau. Just taking things day by day right now. I am horrible about strength training. I KNOW I need to do it, but I feel like when I step into the weight room at the gym I am overwhelmed and don't really know what to do.

I try to take classes. It keeps things new and fun for me. I like Zumba, Kickboxing, Spinning, and Club Boxing Circuit classes. I do yoga but not often enough. When I do cardio I'll do 30 minutse on the elliptical and 15 minute walk on the treadmill.

I'm doing the 12 week toning/fat loss program right now from bodybuilding.com...i enjoy learning how to use free weights finally, instead of the pully machines.

MWF: full body strength training for 60 minutes (e/o week with a trainer)
T, Th, S: elliptical, arc trainer, treadmill, or a class

Though if I'm honest, I often take the full weekend off and go on a walk instead, depending on how hard I worked during the week.

M, W, F - I usually do cardio: elliptical, bike, stairmill, treadmill, treadclimber. Sometimes throw in a short floor ab routine as well.

Tues & Thursday - I do either circuit or strength training: spartacus workout (3 sets) or one of the Jillian videos (30DS or No More Trouble Zones) or free weights. If I'm doing free weights, I'll also do 10-15 minutes of cardio first to get my heart rate up as advised by my personal tranier friend.

Saturday and Sunday - I do stuff at home so that's not gonna help you. :)
