What did you learn from your last binge?

Soda (diet soda at least), makes me crave more food, possibly more sugar
Eating things that other people have made without knowing the ingrediants sends me into a hopeless spiral where I freak out because I don't know how many calories I've eaten and I end up continuing to sabotage myself.
Eating chocolate makes me want to keep eating chocolate
Eating something sugary or calorie dense makes me want to keep eating and leads to me still being very hungry
I can eat a lot of calories and still feel hungry

I've learned that when I eat mindlessly, it’s generally late at night and is triggered by some form of dissatisfaction (from trivial causes to deeper ones). The eating is to “feel better”, even if that’s not ultimately what happens.
For now, these are the strategies I'm trying to keep in mind:
- Go to BED at night! Unlike other things, this one is fully under my control.
- Fitting in an exercise session (or doing something outdoors) can be enough to make a day feel like a success. This can help nix the dissatisfaction that leads to binge eating.
- Eating a few hundred calories over plan is better than going all out. So if it’s too late and I’m staring down an urge to binge, get something legitimately nice and fairly calorific, eat it and then head off to bed (instead of starting with “two dry crackers” or such and escalating from there into a binge).
I’ll be interested to hear other people’s answers (and strategies)!2
