So I recently came to conclusion that a big change needs to happen in my life which has led me wanting to start my fitness journey. I’ve never been happy with my weight or satisfied by how I look and feel. I’ve tried working out many of times and it never stuck. But I know it’s mind over matter and it’s time to change my life around. I’m 5’0 at 185lbs I’m looking to be around 130-135lbs in my end goal. I have a vacation on may 14, and I’d like to shed as much weight off as possible before then. With that, I’m currently on day 6 of eating healthier, tracking my calories, And trying to incorporate an exercise of some sort into my day. it’s hard to get my way to the gym so I started working out at home. I have a treadmill at home, I’ve been fast walking on it every day for an hour at 7.0 incline at 2.5-3.0 speed. I try to run on 5.5-6.0 speed for around 20-25 seconds here and there but I can only do so much because I’m a longtime smoker. After I’m done, I do 50 jumping jacks & 30 squats. After each day I felt amazing but I just want to know if this is effective in losing the weight I wanna lose by the time I want to lose it. Thanks for your help in advance

Counting your calories will help you lose weight. Exercise has a much more minimal impact because it doesn’t burn as many calories as we might think. Now, you should still exercise for heart health and many other reasons — including the fact that it sheds SOME calories.

Are you eating the number of calories MFP recommends, and how are you calculating that number?

Don't run just get in 10,000 steps a day and some free weights. You'll kill your knees. You got this but do it for a life time not for friends and family. If you do it for them you'll gain it all back. Do it for yourself!

There's no reason to walk 10000 steps other than following the marketing campaign of a step counter manufacturer, and running is no problem provided ok shoes and TO listens to their body.

But yeah, for weightloss it's a calorie deficit that TO needs. While exercise does burn calories it's often a lot less than we think. The easiest way to create a deficit is to eat less. And when I say eat less I don't mean as little as possible but at a sustainable level that prevents binging and feeling miserable and teaches new habits. If TO now tries to lose as much as possible until vacation then this might feel like a relieve and all the good work might become undone there and restarting thereafter might be difficult. Better go a bit slower, moderate a bit here and there, and continue trying to moderate a bit during vacation and continuing thereafter. It's not a race, but a marathon.
