ughhh today is a bad day :noway: It is only 2 o'clock and I already ate like all my calories!! I am so hungry today and i don't know why.. looks like i am working out extra hard tonight ! that is if I have time..
ok so on another topic.. I need some none diet advice.. well just getting some feedback..
I have been at my job for 6 months.. Not really liking it.. getting promotion but no pay increases.. contributing to benefits..and travling a little over an hour each way to get here.. Wake up at 5:30 get home at 7:00. (i.e. often to tired to work out) I make $35,000, pay $290 a month for my commute, $110 a month for medical, $40.00 a month for dental. Plus I get double taxed since I live out of state.. making my pay about $900 every two weeks..
today I got offered another job.. less stressful job but not a slary job.. $12.50 per hour :noway: but I don't have to contribute any money to medical or commute because it is 10 minutes from my house and the company pays my mecical... I think with my medical being covered it is about $14.00 per hour. I can see myself doing this job and I feel I will be a lot happier. Plus my mom is goingt through chemo and now I can spend more time helping her and actually having enough energy to work out...
Do i take the pay drop to be closer to home? and happier? do I stay where I am at and hope to get a raise? like it better? I am so confused this is my first job. (i just graduated last may) and I don't know what to do??
thank you all!!

id take the job closer to home. you have to do what makes you happy!0

If you think you would be happier in the new job take it. If you can afford the pay drop. I think losing the commute and working so close to home is what I would choose. Since your Mom is going trhough such a rough time it would be good for you to have more time with her. I also think that this new job paying your medical is a great benifit. You don't like your current job and you think the new job will make you happier GO FOR IT! Cindy0

go for happiness. . . . the pay will come !!!0

well 900 every 2 weeks bring home
compared to 800 or less bring home if you take the other job??
I know it doesn't look good on a resume hopping from 1 job to the next. In the end it is your choice-
The grass always looks greener on the otherside until you get there.
If your making 35 g's a year now taking the other job is a huge pay cut.
I probably wouldn't take it because I work hard to make sure I only go up in pay and not down. Last time I took a job with a paycut I didn't advance in pay or anything.
Do what ever you think will make you happy- and if you can afford the paycut go for it-
As far as the medical coverage how much medical do they pay? will you have out of pocket expenses that is something you will need to consider as well as far as deductibles and co-insurance0 -
I agree. I would take the job closer to home that would make you happier. Especially if you can see yourself there long term. Also, be with your mother as much as possible during this time. My own mother went through chemo 2 years ago and I was able to be with her during some of her treatments when my dad had other things that he had to take care of. Remember, you can't put a price on happiness.0

I would take the new job. The $ you will save on the commute and your contribution to med will probably make the take home just about even out. Plus, you will have less stress which = happier, healthier you! Good luck with whatever you decide. :flowerforyou:0

I just graduated last May and when I was in college our advisor told us that she would recommend that we not take a job that has more than a forty-five minute drive. She told us that it would lead to burn out and it would lead to us not wanting to do what we went to college for. If you can afford to take a cut in pay, I would say go for the job that is closer to home. It will make you feel better and it will give you more time for your mom. That's just my opinion, though, and it's a decision that you will eventually have to be comfortable with making. Good luck!!:flowerforyou:0

I would take the job closer to home... it sounds like it will even out when minus the commute, health and double taxes.
Good Luck!0 -
Go for it.:flowerforyou:0

I personally would take the job closer to home with medical paid....you don't really know the options for pay advancement, but like anything else there is no guarentee. 1 thing you could do is negotiate a raise into your offer. Basically have it state that you will take the $12 an hour with benefits with a stipulation that you will be reviewed in 6 months with a raise in your hourly a $1 more...and so on. It has always worked for me.
Good luck. And remember a bigger salary does not always = happy job........and sometimes a happy job is much better then $.

The pay cut is not really as bad as it seems.. base salary $26000, but add 3480 for commute per year, 1320 for medical per year, 480 per dental per year = 31280. Then factor in your happiness, your commute and how much time you spend driving, and it's 3720 a year less = 310 a month. Can you live without that $300 a month (gross)? If yes, change jobs.
Unless you absolutely LOVED your job, commuting that much every day will take a long term toll on your health, job satisfaction, relationships, etc.
Every job will suck at some points, but overall, if you like what you do and the atmosphere is a good one, then that's the job you should stay at for roughly 5 yrs. And promotions without pay? That's crap. That's "I'm giving you more work to do and not paying you for it because I called it a promotion."0 -

If a company offered me 6 figures and it was a 90 minute commute I am all on it..0 -
thank you all so much for your advice.. I am leaning toward the job closer to home!! I know I am not a manager making the same salary i made when I was hired as an assistant! which is not fun!!
Thank you!!0 -
If it was me, I would choose to be closer to home and Mom. I wish I could have had that choice, unfortunatly I was 3 hours away from my mom. By the time I got to the hospital she was gone. If I had to do it all over I would have been there. :frown:0

I would switch jobs. My mom got breast cancer and she lived in Florida and I live in NC. I went as much as I could and I think I lost my job over it. Although they came up with a different excuse because of FMLA. I would have definately spent more time with my mom if I could have. And now she is gone so it is to late.

Hi
What about paid vacation time/sick pay/paid holidays?
Just something to consider
Good luck!

this job I am in now is 5 sick/ personal (no vacation your first year) and the main holidays ( i think there are 5)...
The one closer to home is 17 days.. after six months.. But she said they will work with me if I need a day off sooner! They seem really accomidating and the benefits weren't suppose to start untill after 6 months and she gave them to me from day 1! It would be nice to get a vacation!0
