I am Dominic and a first time user of MyFitnessPal. I am a 42 year old single dad in Quebec who wants to lose about 20lbs and i’ve been struggling with motivation and consistency. So far this app has been helpful and I am on the right path! Happy to join this journey with all you fine people, cheers!

Welcome Dominic!
Motivation is an odd duck. It will leave you cold down a dead-end alley. Instead, use the tools here to develop habits and don't rely on motivation to be consistent. If I had to rely on motivation, I'd be a lot less successful.
Just keep sticking to it!2 -
That makes perfect sense, just been following a plan and building on it and feeling and doing great so far! Thank you for your input! 🙂0

If you happen to be looking for a supportive community, I'm part of a group that is made up of really supportive people working on being better versions of themselves. Our motto actually is "STICK TO IT." It's called "Lose 1 Pound a Week and Keep it Off." Anyone here is free to join. There's two requirements: post goals once a year (they can be revised each quarter) and do a weekly weigh-in. We have other ongoing challenges that are optional, and we try to do special challenges too. This week the challenge is to "eat the rainbow" of different colored fruits and vegetables. Last week we "acted our shoe size" for 15 minutes a day.
It's a private group, so you have to request to join, but everyone gets approved. Then you've got a few weeks to enter your goals.
Come join us if you like.0 -
Hello Dominic,
Welcome! Being a 41 year old dad myself, I can relate with the motivation part. However, as said above, motivation is great to get started but a fickle ally. Setting goals can help you get consistent if they are small enough that you can reach them.
For example, losing 20lbs is a great goal but can be daunting. Dividing it up into smaller goals can make it more manageable. The suggestion to join the above group can make it more achievable and can give you some accountability to persist, even when motivation decided to take a detour.0
