Those little condiment takeout cups...

You know when you order something for takeout that comes with a sauce (like say BBQ wing sauce) and they put it in those little plastic dixie cups with the lids? How much do you think they hold? I tried to look for an amount on the container but it didn't say..then I tried to imagine how many shots would fill it... I settled on 4 tablespoons but I have no idea.
Anyone know?

working in the restaurant industry .... they are usually 2oz sometimes you get the super tiny 1oz but rarely the 4oz which is what a side of coleslaw(for example) would come in0

I think it may be closer to 2 unless they get a little generous and then it may be 3..... but I'm not positive.0

Exactly what I would say. More then likely it is 2oz0 -
It depends so much on the restaurant ... I measured some sour cream out as about 2 T. I found it was easier to measure it than guess.0

What they said^^^^ Typically they are 2 ounces which equals 4 tablespoons.0

I would just get one. Empty it and measure the amount.0

Ditto the 2 ounce. I sell these cups and most of them are 2 ounces........some are 4 (they hold more "side dishes") some are one, but they are flatter......hope this helps.0

That's what I thought, that they were 2 oz - and that equals 4 tablespoons!? Yes! What a guess!
I had pizza for lunch and got wing sauce instead of creamy garlic dipping sauce so I could save some calories and that's what it came in - and I made sure to not eat it all! Woo hoo!0 -
all I know is they are the perfect size for jello shots...lol0

I also echo the 2oz measurement. We used them at one of my previous jobs and the most common size I see around for sauces is 2oz. As stated, the 4oz are most often used for small sides like a scoop of potato salad or something. And the 1oz size I think I've only ever gotten with crushed red pepper from a pizza place.
And I wanted to thank you for this post. Because I have a bunch of the 2oz ones at home because I used to mix resin in them. But I've been recently looking for a smaller container to mix and bring my PB2 in and those will be perfect!0 -

HELL YEAH! I make them all the time in these! ROFLMAO!
Yes - the traditional average size is a 2oz portion. If you were to lay a quarter at the top of it, you should only see the outer rim of the lid....
I have a heavy-duty version that holds 2oz... and another that holds 4oz that are capable of storing in the freezer... GREAT way to portion out fresh herbs in olive oil or stock!0 -
They are definitely 2 oz. I used to make wax candle tarts and they were the perfect mold!0
