Just looked at the specs and here's what I can tell so far from different websites::

Pros:
- The build looks higher quality than some other Android Tablets. Claims to be very durable.
- Lightweight and thin.
- Free Cloud Storage.
- Price is good.
- Multi-touch (you can use more than one finger at a time on the screen).

Cons:
- No HDMI out port (not sure how this will plug into a TV. I don't get how Amazon can talk about streaming movies and not give the product an interface to connect to a TV)
- No SD Card slot (for side loading or extra storage)
- Unsure about if different Android markets are locked out. What other Android Features are locked out and require side loading to get around?
- No Camera (also no video chats)
- No Bluetooth (technically, it might... but if it's like the one on Nook color, the range is something like 1 foot away and only suitable some kind of accessory like a keyboard)

There aren't any real user reviews of this product available yet so some of this may be wrong. They could've made their product more competitive by adding more features. I'm not impressed. You are paying less, but you're also getting less. It comes across as a Nook Color with no micro SD Card slot. Also, the new Nook Color is coming out soon.

Here's a link to a couple articles:

Mostly a tag to keep track of the topic.

at first glance, it seems great to me. We have an Ipad already so this is a supplemental device. The size is good for traveling and interested in the streaming content on Amazon. Overall, if it has a way to hook up to a TV it will likely be in our house by the holidays.
  • I'm really disappointed with Amazon going down this route. When the Kindle came out, it was like an mp3 player for book lovers. I could care less about any extras. I want to be able to read what I want without worrying about battery life or straining my eyes. But now that Amazon sees where tablets are going, they're competing in a market that is not made for the Kindle. People ask me if they should buy a Kindle or an iPad... there is nothing to compare with the current generations of both. They are for two entirely different purposes. This was exactly why I didn't purchase a Nook, and I won't be purchasing this either. If Amazon wants to create a new experience, they should have created something out of the realm of Kindle to compete with the iPad and kept the Kindle as it is but continue to modify its appearance, battery life, and increase its functionality.

I take some of it back... they have the new Kindle and a Kindle Touch coming out. The prices are fantastic for being e-book readers, and I am definitely considering those. I'm glad they time traveled and took my advice.

Best Buy just slashed their prices on the Blackberry Playbook with a 7 inch screen from $500 to $300 for the 16GB model.

Refurbed Motorola Xoom 32GB model with 10.1 inch screen is on sale for $350 at woot.com just for today.

Oh the carnage. Let the price slashing begin!
