Anybody have trouble accepting their weightloss?

Am I the only one who looks in the mirror and still sees themselves at the original weight? The only REAL proof (in my mind) is that none of my clothes fit anymore. You would think that would be enough, but it isn't. 24 pounds, almost 2 sizes smaller, lots of inches gone...still feel like a fatty! What's up with that???

No, I feel the same way too. I don't know, I guess I just won't see a difference until I'm where I want to be.

You just keep losing until you reach your goal, and eventually you'll be able to accept it.

ME! I hate it. I feel like I'm loosing pounds but not inches. But I am! Started in size 17 pants and now in a 11/12 but I cant SEE it like everyone else can! GR

I actually look more fat!!! Everyone tells me I dont need to lose anymore, but I definately do. I did read on here the other day, when you ware fat you block it out, when you have lost lots you are more aware and notice the imperfections more, must be true :(

I'm down 40 pounds and I still don't see it. I agree that I probably won't accept it or feel it until I am where I want to be.

I'm with you too---I think we continue to see flaws whatever size we are..it's all relative. I have always said if it weren't for the size on my pants, I wouldn't have a clue how I look in someone else's eyes. It's really a hard thing-- self-perception vs. reality. Wish I had an answer, but you are not alone!

When I'm sitting around, I tend to pinch myself (ok, ok... my fat!). As I lose weight- I realize there is less to grab onto. But, no, I don't see it, either.

Same here....the other day I went shopping and automatically grabbed size 16 pants (rather then 10/12). I saw a current picture of me the other day and it really surprised me how different I look now from 6 months ago.

Whoa! Look at how muscular those legs are!!!

As far as this topic, I don't know. I haven't lost enough to be able to say one way or the other. But I have heard from others that it does take a while to stop seeing who you were and start seeing who you have become.

I am in the same boat!!! For me, I think it's because I'm still far from my weight goals so I'm going to stay unsatisfied until I get there. I'll enjoy my moments of, "Whoa! I'm wearing this size now?" and "Woo-hoo! More pounds dropped!" but it doesn't last very long. Hahaha!

For me it was when I was at my heaviest I was in denile of what I looked like so now that I am actually the way I thought I looked then it doesn't feel like as much of an acomplishment. That being said I can fully recognize how much I have lost when I look at photos from my heaviest. 80lbs makes a huge difference!

As long as I don't look in the mirror, I relate to my body dimensions as I did when I was a size 24, now I am a size 10. So I will be walking and making sure there is plenty of room around me I don't want to knock over anything with my big butt. LOL
But it will take time to adjust, and the main thing you would be focusing on is how you feel. For me I feel free, it is so much easier for me to move, to exercise, and to run. Which is incredible.
All is all, just focus on how great and light you feel with the loss of weight, then with time the size will ketch up with you.

Agree with all of the above. I still have a hard time seeing my new size for what it really is. I've gone from a size 24 to a size 10 and whenever I go shopping I still head straight for the Plus size section first. It really is an indicator as to how we see ourselves, no matter what our size.

I do most days. Like today I weighed in with a 1.2 pound loss. I seem to have it in my head that it cannot be right, like my scale is broken. Always happens, I have even weighed things (flour, dumbell) to check my scale. I know logically I have lost but just do not always see it.

Me! Well sort of. I'm down 60+ pounds / 5 pants sizes / 3 shirt sizes and when I look in the mirror I see a thin, more muscular girl. But when I'm out and about I wonder, do people look at me and think I'm fat? Do I look fat in these jeans? Is this shirt too tight? Should I have gotten the XL instead of the L? Was I being too cocky thinking I would wear a M? Luckily I have family and friends who keep reassuring me and telling me how good I look and how proud of me they are.

I did have a very close male friend tell me a few months ago that I would probably feel fat for the rest of my life because I spent so many years being very overweight and girls just tend think that way. Whereas, he on the other hand, will always think he's thin and the same weight he was in high school no matter how much he gains because guys are like that. I punched him in the arm and then gave him a big hug--silly boys!

I cannot see a difference in myself, either. Yet, I can look at somone else who has lost the same amount of weight and clearly see it!

I am not an emotional guy, but I get semi flustered that I think I don't look any different when I look at myself. Til I compared pictures I couldn't of told you I lost weight. That is at 69 pounds lost. I think it's a mental barrier that people have. We see ourselves daily so the change is so gradual compared to someone who hasn't seen us for awhile.

I'm the same, I think I'm just a smaller version of the bigger me in the exact same dimensions. If not even with an increased muffin top :S I'm only 6lbs from my target weight and nowhere near as lean as I'd like to be. I'm going to start the new rules of lifting for women when it gets delievered see if I can sort my shape out.

I suppose it works the same the other way around too, you know by not realising you're putting on the weight until you have to suck in to fasten your pants etc

This is exactly right! I am so much more self-conscious now then when I was at my biggest.
  • me too!
My family and friends say i look like im losing weight and all and I know my clothes are fitting different, I feel better than ever but i look in the mirror and still see a chubby girl.

    Even my husband is noticing.

However, I will give myself credit for my legs starting to look tight. That I have noticed. Everything else, yeah not so much.

Every time I go to the department store, I always hold up the size I KNOW I'm in and the first thing that runs through my mind is, "this looks way too small for me." I went from 18W to a size 6 (almost 4). My daughter forces me to try it on and prove to me it will fit. lol

I absolutely still see the short, fat girl.

I wish I had an answer for you. Even at 76lbs lost, I often only see the old me. I want to see what other people see!
