I'm a really bad eater so what are some foods you should just stay away from ... I stop drinking sodas a year ago but this month I find myself slipping just one here and there ....

  • I think I can safely say anything fried or processed is a HUGE no no. Try to stick to unprocessed foods like fruits, veggies, whole grains etc and you should be okay. As Jillian Michaels likes to say "if it didn't have a mother, don't eat it" LOL

Deep fried or overly processed. Pretty much.

Most things in plastic wrappers, plastic containers or cardboard boxes
Lots of stuff in cans - see rules below
Anything with more than 5 ingredients
Anything with " numbers" in the ingredients
Anything where sugar is in the first 3 ingredients

For me it's less about what I need to stay away from and more about what I need to migrate toward. I find that once I make proper healthy choices (the closer to the farm, field, or orchard the better) making those a priority there's less room in my food budget for the stuff I shouldn't eat. This also puts me into the mind set of "I can have x as long as I've already fullfilled my requirment for x, y, and z."

I agree. Start with not eating anything that comes out of a box. I like some advice I got from a nutrition specialist once. They recommended that when you go to the grocery store try to stick to the outside aisles. If you notice, at many grocery stores, the outside aisles consist of the less processed foods (meats, dairy, produce). All of the inside aisles are what I like to call food products (not even considered real food).

for me it was really about portion size. if you think your eating too much use a smaller plate or begin measuring your food out. Try to eat a varity of colors and no, cheetos don't count. I haven't given up anything completely but I agree with the people above. Also staying away for white food helps. i.e. no white bread, refined pastas, white potatos, sugar, bleached flour.

Find a few things you love and always have them on hand. I always have almonds, strawberry or grapes and tomatos avaliable.

    Good luck!

I can't completely avoid fried. So I just eat about 1/4 of what I used to eat if it's fried.

Copious amounts of cheese on anything. I really miss cheese.

Iced Coffee and Blended Coffees. I love my Frappachinos but they're soooooo bad.

Blended Smoothies - I thought I was eating something healthy at McD's because they labeled it "Real Fruit" but then I entered it into my MFP log and realized how much sugar was really in it.

Where I live, all the major restaurant chains have to put calories on the menu. Cheesecake Factory now sucks for me.
