I think it is more about your fitness level and what you can or can't do. Work on building your fitness like a grand staircase and work your up the steps0

I am 5'2" and I hate to run, so I have been brisk waling 2-3 miles three times a week. Maybe one day I might jog, with eating correclty I seem to be loosing about 1-2 pounds a week I hope that helps.0

I am 5'4" and I started running after I got below 170 lbs. My trainer was pressuring me to run much before that, but I refused since EVERY woman in my family, on both parent's side, either had or needs to have knee replacement surgery. I though I would damage my knees if I started running when I was heavier.
I now know that running is actually better for your knees than not running and if I knew then what I know now, I would probably start running after I got below 200.0 -
I forgot to add. Running is not easy at any weight. When I first tried, I could barely run for 3 minutes. I slowly built up from there with run-walk intervals.0

I run about 4km+ a day and I'm 5'3 and around 200 lb.
You can do it!0 -
I was 50lbs heavier when I started running(Im only 5'3 btw) so I was 160ish I started very slow and usually early in the am cause I was embarrassed of people seeing me and thinking I looked gross(no one thinks that btw, I learned that later) The lbs started flying off and I started to feel more and more confident with myself. Just keep at it. I love running. It is the best cardio workout I have found. It makes you feel amazing afterwards and the more weight you lose the better you will feel about lacing up and going out there.0

I am running now at 180 and was even running at my highest at 215. Anyone can run as long as you have the right mind set and build up your endurance. And if you dont think you can run/jog long then just do brief intervals. HIIT is a great workout. good luck :-)0

I started running about 7 years ago. My average weight 170-175 during that time. I still managed to complete 3 full marathons, upteen half marathons & several trail runs When I started WW in May of 2010, I was at least 175. Needless to say, running has become much easier. Hang in there! It will happen!0

THANKS! This really gives me some insight and I think I might try running again now that I have lost almost 50 lbs0

I'm 4'10" and running 5mpg at 3-5min intervals. My weight was 180lbs when I started. Steadily building the endurances and stamina. Each week I try adding another minute but its been a struggle. Total time 45-50mins in one session.0

HIIT is a great workout.
what is HIIT?0 -
I'm 5'2".. last year at 145lbs I started running and couldn't even run for 30 seconds. It was horrible. I pushed myself so hard and thought I had to run hard. I did the C25k. But afterwards, I was in so much pain I had to stop. In fact, I even stopped working out and completely burnt out.
THIS YEAR, I decided I wasn't going to do that. What am I in a hurry for? I have the rest of my life. So believe it or not, I started running on the treadmill at 3.6 mph. Now, I can run 6.5 miles outside. However on the treadmill, anything over 4.0 seems to be hard on my body and knees. I'm not sure why. I've come to the conclusion that I can run at whatever speed I want outside, but inside I need to enjoy my run by running between 3.8-4.2 mph.. and ENJOY it!
My knees aren't perfect, but I've enjoyed this year's running challenge vs. last year. I take advil for it. I've been running since July! I have my first 5k next Sunday. I'm not worried about my time. I have 3 races planned for November!
ENJOY running. Don't make it hard !!0 -
HIIT , you can google it! I had to do the same when I didn't know what it was.
I plan on starting HIIT in October.
High Intensity Impact Training! It's when you do 1 minute of very hard cardio, like running at 8mph, then 2 minutes of slow walking. It causes your heart rate to spike, then lower quickly.
You can mix it up with minutes hard vs. slow as you progress. It's suppose to jump start plateau issues and burn fat faster.. supposedly.0 -
5'3 here and started running when I was 210lbs. Hurt like hell then, but completely my first marathon last Sunday, and running 2-3 more next year (already registered for 2 so far). I'm much thinner now, and faster, but keep at it. You'll get better and faster.0

I started the couch to 5k plan when I was about 195. It's a nice way to start out and had no problems with it. Get good shoes, work your way up gradually, and believe in yourself!0

Couch to 5K is the best beginner running program I've seen yet. I suggest you google it and give it a shot!0

I am 5'5" and I started jogging at about 180lbs. I am NOT a jogger or I didn't used to be. I would walk and I just started to push myself. I would jog until I couldn't anymore, walk to catch my breath and repeat. Before that I couldn't jog to the corner, now I can jog .25-.5mi straight. You have to build up to that, you can do it! Too bad you don't live in San Jose, we could do it together!!0
