Weight training - effectiveness of bands?

I'm doing P90X and I have an adjustable dumbell set, but doing a circuit workout like P90X makes switching between weights a pain. I've priced out new dumbells and it's tough to justify a couple hundred dollars for the fancy quick adjust ones.

I have bands and I've been using those for everything that requires a weight over or under 25lbs, which is where my dumbell curls are. Are these really effective for weight training? I feel like my effort goes down vs using free weights.

I have been doing the Power90 (trying to work up to P90X) and I have seen a ton of results. I no longer have a fat arm wave and have actual tone and definition. I have also gone up 3 resistance bands since I started in June 2011.

Maybe I don't know how to use them properly. I always get a few reps in and feel like I need to widen my stance to add resistance because I'm not getting a burn. It seems like an inexact method.

Bands lack eccentric movement. Eccentric movement is responsible for muscle soreness because it stretches the fascia.
    Bands are progressive resistance only.
Stick to the weights for better results.
