but it is kinda political............but then again not really.
Why are there 50 signs within 10X10 square feet of the same sign for the same politician during election time?
This really bothers me and makes me not want to vote for that politician. It's ridiculous I read your name 1 foot ago, then again and again and again and again.....I could go on......they sure did.

Between those & the mud-slinging ads that air every 2 seconds on TV, I just want to move to Canada next year to avoid it all.

There's a Bigfoot (like 50 feet tall) in the next village over, and he's holding a political sign.

Then again, he's also smokin a cigar.

The sign thing happens in Canada too, at least it does in my city. I never understood why they do it.

I would vote for that person! That sounds seriously badass.

I think that campaigns shouldn't be how they are now. If you don't have money or you can't raise money you are screwed. No more commercials or signs. Everyone gets to answer the same questions live on TV and that's it.

Is it me...or do elections too often come down to a case of "who do you hate less" rather than "hey, Iike that person!"?

There in lies the problem...there is nothing good so they have to mudsling otherwise there would be no ad at all. Wouldn't hurt my feelings any if there wasn't any ads.
  • We're on our third election in less than a year (municipal last October, federal in May and provincial next week). Ton's of signs and attack ads that start months before the actual "election campaign period". Now there are even automated phone calls to go with candidates going door to door.
I vote in advance polls and work on the election so I can tell them that I can't listen to them as I have to remain impartial and it's too late for them to change my vote anyways.

I think the losing candidate should have to clean up ALL the signs.

They want to imprint their name in your head... They call it "branding." You're more likely to remember what a sign says if you see it multiple times in the EXACT same font/color/etc, than if there is a lot of variation. It's the same reason companies use logos! Basically they are trying to burn an image into your mind... lol

I think the WINNING candidate should have to clean up ALL the signs. Then, maybe only someone actually willing to work would be willing to run.

Also remember they want to leave the impression that those signs are placed by multiple supporters leading one to believe that candidate X is very popular so therefore is the better choice.

Oh it definitely brands me..........but not in the way they want. No way I am gonna vote for this lady now just because I am annoyed. It makes me not even want to find out what she is about.

What Carl said but especially this: signs make supporters feel special cuz they have a sign and the people who will or are thinking about voting for you feel that its a good choice because their guy must be great look how many people have his sign or bumper sticker.

The worst of the negative ads are run by third party groups with skin in the game and not the candidate. Expect it to get worse with supreme court decisions recently. Also lets the candidate distance himself from the ugliest of accusations.
  • It's always a popularity contest. We don't really know who we are electing most of the time and they can and do change thier views also!
