Hi,

I've read where some of you just use the white of the egg......

Where do you buy these from?.....

I did check out my local woolies but all they had was a packet of frozen egg whites......

I've never seen them in Aus.... I always thought that was just a peculiar US thing. But then I don't see the point, I love my eggs and I'm not going to miss out on the best bit!
If you really don't want to eat them, feed them to your dog or cat, they will love them

I have just had scrambed egg whites for the first time, and all I did was break the eggs into a bowl and scoop out the yolks with a tablespoon. It took about 2 seconds. I used to have an egg separator, but the kids have hidden it! Whilst I can see that buying egg whites might be seen as "convenient", it hardly saves you any time at all and will contain wasteful packaging that is so unneccesary.

As for taking out the best bit, the yolk is mainly fat & cholesterol, so taking it out leaves you with lean protein. I flavoured my scrambed egg whites with a bit of garlic oil & herbs, and served it on high bran bread with a scraping of low fat cream cheese & salad tomato. I can honestly say I didn't miss the yolk at all.

Thanks.....Thought that might have been the case.....

I love the whole egg but I thought I would give just the whites a try by themselves.......
  • I always just use the shell to separate them. Break the egg in two, move the yolk between one half of the shell and the other until all that's left is the yolk. (And of course do this above a container to catch the egg white :D)

I guess it depends what you are after in your diet. The yokes aren't a problem for me as I don't mind some fat and I think that the whole eggs=high cholesterol myth has been well and truly disproven.
But, if you like them and it suits your dietry needs... go for it!

I only know of the frozen egg whites at Woolwoths. You could try GNC health/ body building shops.

Ditto. Why not eat the whole egg? I don't think you can buy just egg whites in Germany either. And if you could, I wouldn't.

Woolworths sells frozen egg whites.....packaged in a one litre milk carton. Yellow carton with a body builder illustrated on it. The only problem is one litre of defrosted egg whites is a fair bit to use up before it spoils! Hope this helps.

It was Woolies that I saw the egg whites in the freezer section.......But in a package not carton.......

The reason I wanted just the egg whites is I just wanted to try something new.......

I know I could easily separate the white and yolk but I just didn't want to waste the yoke.........

Thanks to you all for your replies..................................
