Comments on open diaries

I'd say that opening your diary is about being honest with yourself first and if someone wants to take a look, fine.
If you have friends that throw away one word without looking at the diary, then you probably need new friends!
Then again, some people are buoyed by having a lot of friends that at least say something, but that's really nothing to do with their physical health.
Also, a lot of people use MFP on their phones and the phone apps don't exactly make it easy to check someone's diary. The usability of MFP across a range of devices and services is, frankly, shocking. But then Mike et al have little incentive to improve it so long as the advertising $ roll in. But that's a different rant

They may not be looking at your diary, simply complimenting you on staying within your calorie goal.
The iPhone app doesn't let you look at friends' diaries, but does let you comment on their status updates. I'm guessing the Android app is the same in that regard?0 -
Raises hand in back of room...Guilty, especially when using my phone. I do have an explanation your honor. I am not commenting so much on the food choice, because Lord knows I am the worst when it comes to eating. I usually say good job on making it through another day. I don't care whether someone is over, under, through, ate leftover pizza, or had 2 bottles of Moscato for afternoon snack. Each person is responsible for themselves and if they don't ask me specifically to comment on their food choices, I let them do them and pat them on the back for completing their daily dairy only.
Kick *kitten* weapon, BTW. Girls with guns are a total turn-on.0 -
I dont log my food anymore, and have given up commenting on food diaries for alot of diffrent reasons0

I leave mine open as a means of allowing my friends to see what I eat. Just me being honest with them. I don't mind if they never comment. If they want to waste striking 3 letters to tell me "wtg" that's on them. I'm not in need of any actual support. I'm here for entertainment purposes only. :laugh:0

Sounds like you already know what to eat and what not to eat. If you know you shouldnt eat pizza for breakfast......dont. if you need a comment to remind you then your discipline is ****!0

I never comment without looking the diary over! I am also honest in a very kind way if they are not eating enough veggies or fruits. I am not out to be rude but to encourage.0

When I'm not at work I am usually using the iphone app. *You cannot view a diary unless you are at the site, not on the app* This is why I do not look at them often but I still want to congratulate someone on beign under or completeling their diary.
I think alot of people underestimate how many of us use the app..0 -
I totally agree with you and I personally dont say anything if they have a bunch of bad foods like MD and other fast foods, but I don't feel brave enough to say anything to them about their choices. But I did have one friend that seem to be eating at Wendy's everyday and one other friend commented on that and she now has her diary hide, so who knows if she is still eating there everyday? Some people are in a different spot with their commitment to losing weight.0

Re: the pizza comments...If pizza was ok for dinner the night before, why isn't it ok for breakfast the next morning? I'm just saying...

But to address the original question, I do understand what you're saying but I think the "wtg" and "good job" comments are just people wanting to acknowledge the fact that you actually completed your food and exercise diary even if they don't look at it.
Since you want others' opinions about how you did with your food, then when you enter the diary maybe put your own comment to the news feed post announcing it, asking people what they think about what you ate and how you can do better.
As for me, I typically don't comment when someone completes their food diary unless I'm going to actually look at it, but even then I'm not likely to criticize them for their food choices.0 -
Tell your friends, not us. =D If they're trying to help they'll start paying closer attention.0
