I am new to the MFP community. A great friend referred me and based what I have seen so far, I think this may have been what I needed to help me in my journey to a healthy lifestyle. I have a large end goal but I have come to realize that I need to set obtainable milestones to help me reach the huge end goal that I have.

I have a one year old son, a husband that works nights and I work a full-time day job. This lifestyle drives me crazy but I have to accept it and go on. I want to spend as much time as I can with my little man so that makes it hard to get much exercise in. Any ideas or suggestions how to balance this would be greatly appreciated!

Best is to built your worksouts around him. I have a 4 and 6 year old. I get up early for one workout and do another after they go to bed. Also on the weekends the 6yr old loves to do the videos. So she will watch me then I will push play and she will do them. I work full time and my husband is deployed oversees so it is like being a single parent. Like your husband working nights. Just find a way to make working out fit into your life. Make take a minute but you can do it. Good luck.

Welcome to the club! I, too, have a large end goal and I can't let myself think about that big number. Instead of am working on 5 lbs at a time.

I have read many things about ways to work out when you have kids and most often they recommend going for a walk with the stroller and your son. Or get one of those things that fits over your back for him to ride in and walk that way. The extra weight is sure to burn more calories. :)

I love this site and I'm sure you will as well. I like that it helps me keep track of EVERYTHING I put in my mouth lol. It is a huge accountability device. Feel free to add me as a friend as well.
  • Hi! Welcome. This site has been a huge help to me in the past three months. I joined awhile before I really got serious but once I did I reaped the benefits.

I have a three year old son myself and a fiance (not to mention the wedding planning ) who works late night shifts and I work a full time day shift. The thing I found most helpful to me was walks. My son loved getting in his car or stroller and being pushed around. We would sing as we walked or play games like I spy. He enjoys it I get my excersise and dont loose a minute from him. As we have been walking for awhile now he really thinks its fun stuff when I start to run. He is actually my motivation as he yells faster faster.

Anyways as you can see it is possible. You just have to want to do it. Dont forget to include your little guy. Somedays you may find he will get bored on your walk but then you look at that day as I was able to do something and that is way more then NOTHING.

Good luck to you on your journey. Feel free to add me if you would like.

Hi! I understand where you are coming from! I work full time and also have a part-time contract job working from home along with a very busy husband, disabled 19 year old son, and a 5 year old.

I agree with the others who have said to incorporate your activities around your son. I know he's a bit young at 1 to ride a bike, but put him in the stroller and go walk every day! When my youngest got a bit older and could ride his bike around 3 (even on training wheels), I started walking the neighborhood block which is exactly 1 mile around -- and yes, my little one rode his bike with me. Worked out perfectly. Not only was he thrilled he got to ride his bike and be outside, but little did he know he was also getting exercise! Now he and I still do this and although he's must faster on the bike than I am walking, he knows to stop at a certain point and wait for me when he gets so far ahead. He also loves to skate so this is something we do togther around the neighborhood as well.

The more you begin to do, the more ideas you will come up with that fit into your lifestyle.
