I keep noticing this- I keep wanting to add extra crushed red pepper, green jalapeno powder, or sriracha to everything.
Anyone else experiencing this?

I do that anyway and always, it's a normality. If this is something new your experiencing then welcome to hot and spicy, there's lots to choose from.

I have noticed odd things seemingly related- like craving Frank's Hot Sauce, fermented foods (some are spicy, but not all), and using less salt while wanting more herbs and spices. Also my sense of smell seems keener. I have attributed it to the severe decrease in sugar and simple carbs, but unsure if this is actually a physiological response to that. There are some studies that show spicy foods in particular create a dopamine/endorphin release. Perhaps by denying ourselves some foods, we innately seek out this additional hit of pleasure from other foods by increasing their heat.

I find myself using more seasonings - I think it's because I cook with less oil and fat now, and fat adds flavour. So it could be that - your tastebuds are chasing some more zing.

I think it is because most people tend to get into a rut when they are logging foods. We tend to eat a lot of the same things repeatedly because it fits our routine and goals.

Seasonings/spice shake it up a little bit and make it less monotonous.
