30DS - do rest days help??

I am on day 9 of level 1 today and am really curious about rest days. I have seen improvement in my endurance in the lower body and cardio, but not in the shoulder exercises, and wonder if rest days would help.

Has anyone done 30DS (especially more than once) and noticed if taking even one rest day a week from it has made a positive difference to progress??

Im on my second round and I plan on not skipping a single day this time.
But during my first round I needed 3 rest days (not in a row) because I overexerted myself. It really helped then, but I'll find out if it helps this time or not having them.

I am actually having to start over as I got sick on day 10 of level1 and haven't been able to do it since then.. I wasn't intending to take any rest days, and am hoping I can make it through the whole thing without any this time.

Did the rest days help as in help with the soreness, or help with increasing progress??

rest days always help! no matter what, i don't think you should be working out 7 days a week. at most, six, and one of those days should be a recovery day, where you do nothing but light stretching or yoga.
  • wow ur on day 9.. i attempted it for the first time today, but found it impossible :( ... wish i knew how hard it was before i bought it. I was blinded by other people's amazing results. guess its back to only zumba for me

I'm on level 2 and I always take Friday as a rest day. No elliptical or 30ds or strength. Body needs to rest and repair!

I did mine all in a row, working through the sore days.

I remember my 2nd or 3rd day my arms were so sore the WARMUP of arm crosses KILLED! But as the workout went that day, it got better. When I start a workout sore, I'm usually a LOT better after the workout, whereas a day or 2 off just keeps me sore.

I'm just finishing up Supreme 90 Day and I still have sore days once in a while. But I have found that every time, working through it helped alleviate the aches. Now I love being sore! I know I'm changing things!

Keep in mind..that SHARP pain could indicate injury and is different.

Here's a exceprt from an article I read in bodybuilding.com about it...hope this helps

A curious thing to note is that it is perfectly fine to train through soreness, as it actually decreases soreness and increases fitness. According to Bryan Haycock, the founder of Hypertrophy-Specific Training (HST), research has shown that muscles are designed to recuperate from microtrauma even while undergoing concurrent bouts of trauma (exercise), a premise made apparent in some training styles where such exercises as squats are performed every workout (i.e., three times a week, as on Mark Rippetoe's program and the 5x5).

Soreness will dissipate rather quickly once the body adapts. Of course, to be smart about it, one would have to lower either training load or volume to compensate for the increased frequency, but the premise is to continue to train and to do so relatively frequently against a backdrop of soreness. In addition, training frequency is negatively correlated with soreness.

"Waiting before soreness subsides before doing the next workout is a good way to guarantee that soreness will be produced every time, since the athlete never gets adapted to sufficient workload frequency to stop getting sore" (Rippetoe 213).

The implication: if one's training frequency is relatively high, soreness will dissipate much more quickly than with infrequent training, which will only prolong it.

"Soreness, unless it is extreme, is no impediment to training. In fact, many records have been set by sore athletes" (Rippetoe 213). And so, soreness is not a terrible monster that needs to be avoided at all costs. It is a normal occurrence that accompanies training and can be ignored, unless it is noticeably excessive. "But, in general, if the warm-up returns the movement to its normal range of motion, the workout can be done" (Rippetoe 213).

Aw, don't be discouraged and give up. I found day 1 really hard too and couldn't get through even on the easy version. I'm sticking with it though. I'm only on day 4 and already I am progressing and I can do more than I did on day 1! Keep going!!

Hi there! Just thought I would say "HI" and let you guys know that I did the 30 DS level 1 today and boy was it a workout! The jumping jacks were the hardest for me and when she said 2 minutes of that I thought I was going to faint but I survived it. I did not use weights as I don't have any yet, but I am getting some and will use them tomorrow. I sure hope it gets easier. I think the best think about it is even though it is really intense it is short and just when I thought I was gonna die it was cool down time. I am going to do my best to finish this. I have a lot of respect for those that can do this easily. :)

You can always use canned food if you don't have weights

You should really try to keep going! I had a rough time, but it really does get easier. I made it about a week into week 2 and have stacked off. I'm about to start over and attempt to make it 30 days. Unless my body tells me to take a rest day! You have to listen to your body, but it really does get easier. Plus, you will be so proud of yourself for making it through!

DEFINITELY KEEP GOING!!! IT GETS BETTER!!!

I about died after my first day. Those 2 mins of cardio seem easy until you do them. I always followed Anita and I had to stop a few times for a couple seconds. But keep going!

After I finished, I went back and did Level 1....OMG could I see a difference. It was so much easier! Give it 30 days....the aches and pains and struggles are your BODY CHANGING!

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT TO PUT FOR EXERCISE FOR THE 30DAYSHRED??

    General Circuit.

Tomorrow is my Level 2, Day 9. I did Level 1 for 10 days straight and then took a rest day.

Last night I hadn't done it yet as of 10:30 and went for it. I was glad I did.

Looking forward to Level 3 and finishing the program!

I use HRM and "created" exercise for 30 Day Shred. Then all I had to do was enter time/calories. I do this with everything. That way all my workouts are custom. Before I got my HRM I logged as circuit training.
