48, hoping its not too late!

Hi! I'm new to My Fitness Pal. I am hoping to learn more ways to be healthy and active and lose weight along the way. I lost my mom without warning 6 years ago while my Dad was going through Cancer treatments for three different cancers. It took a toll on my life and body, I stopped caring about what I looked like and worried more about my Dad and everyone else around me. My Dad passed away this past April. I am ready to put myself first and get my life back. I gained 60 pounds since my mom died. I know my weaknesses, Carbs and Beer. I do better at work with my meals than when I'm home. Any advice would be appreciated

    No way! Never too late.
Find a routine you can stick to. Don't try to be perfect right away. Make positive moves that are worthwhile. Get rid of carb snacks, and replace with nuts. Only keep 1 beer in the fridge at a time.

It's definitely not too late! I lost 40 lbs at age 50, and I'm in the best shape of my life. You can do this! Just stay faithful to your calorie deficit and don't get super extreme about anything. Eat in a way you are willing to continue for life, and find movement you enjoy.

Soooo totally not too late: I lost 50 pounds at 59-60, am still at a healthy weight now (68F), and it's been a huge quality of life improvement.

My heart goes out to you: I lost my mom, dad, husband (who was only 45), got stage III cancer myself . . . struggled a bit to find out who I was on my own after that.

Advice: Find your own personal best life balance. If that's limiting carbs and giving up beer, so be it. It it's getting active, enjoying the occasional beer for conviviality's sake (or whatever), and focusing on nutrient-dense carbs, do that. Or any other variation that's the right combination for YOU to have a happy, balanced life.

We're all unique individuals, with our own preferences, strengths, limitations, lifestyles. Finding the enjoyable (yet calorie appropriate, nutritious) eating style, and the fun (at least tolerable, practical) activity level that supports that individuality: IMO, that's where the magic is. You can do that! The quality of life results can be dramatic, in my experience.

I'm cheering for you to succeed!

48 - you are in your prime. You also already know your weakness… so you can use that to your advantage.

Wish I’d had enough brains to start weight loss at 48. 🤦🏻‍♀️

But I started at 56, lost 40% of me and feel great, so no, it’s not too late!

Take that eight year jump start, do it, and then enjoy the hell out of it like I do. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
