Working It In...

I really need some advice. I work a full time job (7 AM - 5 PM) and I have 3 kids, all 2 years and under. My life is crazy hectic! I workout on my lunch breaks, but because I love food, it doesn't seem to be enough. I tried the 30 Day Shred and was doing it after my kids went to bed (did it for 5 nights straight), but it's hard because I'm exhausted at that point and I have a difficult time motivating myself to do anything besides going to bed! Once I get home from work, I have to go straight into making dinner and I have all of my kids under my feet.

So my question is, what would you do in my situation? I really want to do the shred, but I'm not sure where I could possibly fit it in!

Being that it is only 28 minutes long, maybe you could try getting up a half an hour earlier and getting it done. Otherwise, maybe go for walks on your lunch break?
  • Do you have any close friends or family to help you. Talk to them and see if you can get some help. Let them know what you are trying to do for yourself and see if they could lend a hand once or twice a week at night. What are youir weekends like?? When I started my diet and everything approx a year ago I at first just started dietting big time and then once I started to lose a few lbs then I started walking every evening in my neighborhood and that really accelerated the weight loss for me. It was like the icing on the cake! If I were you I would do what you can now as far as changing your eating habits and once you see those results starting then throw in some exercise and you will start getting more excited and motivated to do this! Remember your children need you and for you to get in better shape for them will benefit them in the long run! You do so much for them you need to do this for YOU and no one else!!
  • I am a fulltime mom n house wife (besides going to school part time) I have 2 toddlers, can kind of relate to your situation I strongly suggest for u to get a cheap pair of jeans in the size you want to be.. Instead of eating foods that contain a bunch of calories cut fruit and/or veggies while cooking and at dinner just a salad!!
    And keep in mind!
It's mind over power!! Good Luck..:D
  • I don't know if this would help!! I started doing it when I had a very sick cat who I had to keep eyes on!!
I have 3 pound and 5 pound weights and I do like a warm up then into pumping my weight and walking inside the house..
My hrm says it's like 300 cal in 30 min.
    It also lifted my bubbies;)
I just slapped on my hrm and seen what I was getting burned and made like a aerobic routine of my own.
Let me know if this is an option I will send u what exactly I do..
Also maybe a recumbent bike.. Mine is right in the living room and sometimes that all I can use that day. I also use my weights to get max burn in short time...
    Hope it helps:)

Results are 90% diet and only 10% exercise, they say. So if you cant find time to exercise, fine - just make your diet better.

Honestly, losing weight is mainly diet. Don't get me wrong. Exercise is good (because we want to fit while we lose too). But I would put more of your energy into controlling your food. Get used to planning out your meals, making a healthy lunch & snack the night before etc.

As for shred/other exercise.... you have two choices really. Get up earlier and do it before work. Which might be hard a first, but once its a habit probably won't be so bad. Then its done and out of the way and you don't have to worry about it. Or just tell yourself to do it at night, no matter how tired you are. Just don't let yourself find an excuse.

I also want to know more about where your husband is in this situation? I would think he could handle the kids for 30 minutes for you sometime between 6pm & 9pm.... I've seen a lot of women post that they aren't getting help, but that is something to think about. Your health is important, and it should be important to your husband. Maybe sit down with him and ask him to watch the kids, or even cover dinner some nights? Its all about compromise in a marriage right?

Lastly, do you own a crockpot? I've slowly started making crockpot dinners about 4 out 7 nights a week. (then we use leftovers from the crock pot on other nights lol). It is just much easier to throw everything into the pot in the morning and not have to even think about it till 6pm.

Hope you can de-stress a bit and find a focus to get back on track.

I tried the morning workout today and it didn't work out at all. Got half way through and my daughter woke up, woke her dad up, and then woke her sister up and everyone was pissed. Sucked. Got half way done, but at least it's something. I'm going to start doing jumping jacks and random exercises in the morning outside, but going to hang up Jillian Michaels for a little while. I'm just not ready I guess.

You are right, I need to destress. I woke up earlier than normal today and got a roast with carrots and potatoes in the crockpot before work... should be done by the time I get home and hopefully good. I mess up almost everything I make in it (not sure how, I'm skilled I guess).

My husband is a stay at home dad, so he's done with the kids when I get home. I understand partially, but I really could use a little more help. He's great with the kids and handles them all day 5 days a week, but I work all day too. He thinks my job is my break. Ugh. I probably could have them play in their room for 30 minutes though... they have a mini trampoline in there. They should have fun! Or give the girls a popsicle and send them to the back yard to eat it (they usually end up playing on their gym set when they go out there anyway). I'm just tired of finding time for exercise.

Think I'm going to take your advice and focus on diet for a while. It's always been my major problem.
