Swelling?!

Okay, seriously, what is WRONG with me?!?! Any time I walk at a good clip (3mph or more) for more than 15 minutes, my hands swell terribly. They feel like sausages and it's very uncomfortable. Have any of you experienced this? Any idea what causes it? Or better yet, how I can get it to stop happening? I'm well hydrated and I keep my sodium intake low, so not sure what's going on. I do have arthritis and I'm diabetic, so not sure if those things are related. Just very frustrating! Thanks

try flexing your hands and bringing your arms up while working out .I might be poor circulation due to your diabetes0

If I don't keep my elbows bent so that my hands/fingers are not pointing downward, my fingers get terribly swollen and painful. Even with then slightly elevated I have to wigle them every once in a while to keep the blood from pooling. I don't have arthritis or diabetes so I can't speak to those maybe making it even worse for you.0

I don't have arthritis or diabetes, but my hands do the same thing. It is def very uncomfortable and annoying, but I haven't come across any tips for getting rid of it so I'm interested to hear what others have to say!0

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Type 2 Diabetes, and if I walk with my arms dangling I will get loss of feeling and swelling, not sure which one causes it. It seems to stop if I keep my arms bent at a 90 degree angle, also if I move them while walking. If it gets really bothersome, I would talk to your doctor. Good luck!0

I have this issue, too, although the more I exercise the better it's gotten. What also helps is to keep the arms bent 90 degrees at the elbow and hold something in your hands (like your phone/iPod/water). I ran/walked 4 miles like this the other day and the swelling was markedly better than previous attempts.0
