Cooking for Comfort

I currently have a short term house guest going through a rough patch and in need of some TLC which includes more than a little comfort food. I don't want make two separate meals, but would love to come up with meals that might be served two ways. For example, those buttery mashed potatoes become just a 3T dollop on the side of my protein bowl. That rich cream sauce barely kisses my plate of fish, chicken or veg. I am fairly good at regulating my portions, but the disruption to my 16:8 IF routine and heavier dishes need a plan. And no - I am not interested in foisting my calorie and carb restrictions on my guest.
Ideas on serving up home-style comfort with leaner serving options?

That’s so kind of you care for your guest as they’re going through a tough time. There was a thread that included some lower-calorie swaps or food ideas that might be interesting to check out.

Some things that come to mind - making a shepherd’s pie but with turkey breast and make the mashed potatoes with chicken broth instead of butter and milk (trust me on this one- it’s amazing). A taco/fajita situation is always good because it’s a make-your own. Mediterranean sheet pan meals are also great for people to eat multiple ways, like a Greek chicken and veggie bake with a pita/wrap option and a salad/bowl option. Chili is also something that’s very easy to modify but still tastes like comfort and is nice and hearty. We do Cobb salad often at my house, but serve all the pieces separately so everyone can build their own because we all like different things. Having a sandwich night is another great way to feed multiple people with different food preferences.
