How can a teenage girl lose weight at a good pace that doesn’t involve heavy diet and hard workouts

I want to lose weight so I can feel good about myself. Summer has definitely made an appearance with all the junk food. I’m trying going to the gym but don’t know what workouts to do that will help.

I can try my best to help you, but I need some additional information.
Current Weight, Goal Weight, How much time you want to dedicate to activity, How much of a calorie deficit you would be fine with, Do you want to loose weight or look better? I could then reccomend activities which will be more suited towards your overall goal.

“Weight loss is made in the kitchen”. It’s hard to outwork a bad diet.

My main suggestion would be, if you feel the summer junk food is the source, nip it in the bud. Substitute lower calorie snacks in lieu of chips, cookies, ice cream etc.

Try fruits, veggie sticks, nut butter dips (in moderation), hummus, tzatziki etc.

In leiu of two or three servings of chips, I can have a couple servings of non-oil popcorn for the same or fewer calories. I just got a microwave silicone popcorn bowl that has rocked my snack world.

Make yourself some popsicles out of fruit, juice, yogurt. Popsicle molds are easy to use and fun to experiment with.

    Freeze some grapes.

Avoid sugar drinks like soda, fruit juices and smoothies. Think before it goes in your mouth. Some “bowls” you’d think would be low cal and healthy, well, they just aren’t.

If you go through a serving line place like Moe’s or Cava, check out the menu online beforehand so you know which sauce, meat and additions are lower cal. I went to Cava the other day and only got the side pita. Thank heavens. No way was their whole pita worth 330 calories out of my day. I’d rather eat 1/4 and spend the extra 250 on something tastier.

If you’re going to fast food with friends, look for the lowest calorie options. We love taking our idiot dog to Cookout. They clearly post calories. I was shocked to learn that onion rings are less than half the calories of French fries, so now I always order double rings on the tray. A cookout tray with a double burger, double rings and diet soda or bottle of water is very reasonable calories.

Whatever you do, drop the mindset that you have to cut cut cut and work work work. Do yourself a favor and research for your own self and ignore the so called influencers who prey on the desperate and hopeful.

At your age, I’d make an appt with your pediatrician for some good first steps!

Hey there, be gentle on yourself, being a teenager is hard sometimes, whether you are closer to 13 or 19! I'd probably consider just looking at what you are eating as a first step before making any changes. I'd consider looking at what you eat over the course of a week, just writing it all down or using MFP just to get a ballpark figure of how many calories you are eating - even if it's just from junk food. That might be the nudge that you need to reverse that habit!

I moved out of home at 16 and I ate terribly on a very limited budget and no real idea of what consisted of a healthy diet. If you are living at home, could you work with a parent to come up with a healthy foods shopping list so there is always something good to snack on at home? If you've already moved out, see if you can substitute out some of the things you typically buy for something a bit more nutritious. Great that you have joined the gym, finding something you enjoy is really important so don't feel you have spend hours on the treadmill (or any other activity) if you don't rate it. Good luck!
