Breakfast and cardio

So, here is my problem, I try to get my cardio in before noon everyday. When I wake up I have a routine of making our beds, making breakfast for my kids and then getting to my cardio as soon as I get a few chores done. I always skip breakfast on days when I plan on running especially, because I feel horrible if I run with anything on my stomach! I know I shouldn't skip breakfast, so what should I do? Anyone have this problem?

doesn't really sound like a problem to me. if you don't feel well having food in your stomach before your main exercise (which is in the morning) then don't eat. just be sure to have a healthy, high protein snack when you start to feel hungry after your workout. i don't feel hungry in the early morning...not until at least 2-3 hours after i rise. i don't see it as any sort of issue. just listen to your body.

I've read that you should eat withing an hour and a half of waking up and runners do better with light carbs before a run. Maybe try a piece of toast before you do anything at all and by the time you're done with chores it should be settled. I feel blah if I don't have anything at all and I have to wait about 45 minutes after taking my thyroid so I totally understand eating getting in the way. But if you must run on empty then run on.

Tara, I agree with everyone here. I can NOT eat when I first get up and dont run well with anything on my stomach either so I usually go on empty until I get done and then grab some breakfast if I run in the morning. I prefer running at night.

I agree with what the others have said about listening to your body. If you don't feel hungry-and running with food on your stomach does not jive with your system..then respect that --eat what your body needs post cardio. I have the same routine you described and do not eat until after my cardio. you know your body...
Great job putting your cardio as a priority in your day! :)
  • :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Thanks for all the input. I have heard all the "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" and "if you don't eat frequently throughout the day you will kill your metabolism" theories and was afraid that I was doing more harm than good by skipping breakfast. Most days I don't eat until noon and will only eat lunch and dinner with around a 100 calorie snack in between. I am still losing weight, so I must be doing ok. I was just worried that I was going to stunt my progress by not eating in the morning! The closer I get to to my goal and ideal weight, the harder the weight loss becomes, so I want to make sure I am doing it right!!

You should eat something light before your workout and then I can suggest you can try Shakeology as your breakfast after your workout.
Shakeology is the healthiest meal of the day, and it will replenish all the nutrients and vitamins your body needs. Also will give you so much energy that will hold you without hunger until lunch time.
I drink Shakeology everyday for breakfast. and it's been helping me a lot with my weight loss and energy every day.
Good luck! and Keep up the good work!
