Okay I'm not actually fat but I have a goal measurement of 76cm around just under where my belly button is and in the mornings, before I eat or drink anything I am at that goal! But by night time I am 79cm around...

I want to be 76cm in the evening! And all the time... Haha, anyone have anything thoughts, suggestions or comments? I don't even really know what to ask but I want someone to say something about it! Haha

P.S I know it seems like such a small difference but I feel sooo much better about myself when my my stomach is at 76cm, it's almost perfectly flat, and at 79cm it sticks out quite a bit. So anyone saying "just be happy with what you're at" will not be giving advice I want to hear.

ok besides that are you doing any kind of weight training? muscle takes up less space than fat so anything that works your core will help.

haha or breathe? too much air intake, increasing my gut.. haha
  • You can never be the same in the morning as you are at night, unless you are dead, and even then, you will gradually become smaller anyways. But seriously, your body is always adjusting and storing things, when you sleep your body takes that time to burn a few things and move them around. And 8 hours can cause such a difference in fasting. So quite honestly, what she said was right, do not eat anything. But then you may have to worry about bloating from gas and air, and even that would make you bigger too!

So should I change my goal measurements then? Aim for 73cm so that I'll be 76cm by the end of the day? 73 is sooo small!! I don't think I could be 73cm.... even if it's only before I eat and drink..and breathe. Haha. Probably just need to tone my stomach right? Like does anyone think toning will be the thing that does it? Or will eating and drinking always cause a pot belly? I guess models don't exactly eat a meal right before a photoshoot, or eat on the day of the shoot at all... I can't not eat though. Duh haha

that is completely normal.... it happens to everyone. if you had a 73 cm waist in the morning, it would be 76 in the evening, so its not a battle u can win unless you dont eat or drink all day....

So I can never reach my goal measurements? :( Waahh haha
  • I am not an expert but I would suggest that it is absolutely normal .... also it depends on what you eat during the day. Wheat, bread, pasta, etc are 'famous' for causing bloating in a lot of people - especially if you are gluten intolerant.

I think the only way to find out if it is to do with what you eat is to try eliminating some of those types of things and see if it makes a difference.

Otherwise work on being 73 in the morning and 76 at night ..... happy all round! lol

Bah I don't eat any of that stuff. The most carb things I have are special k in the morning and maybe a cereal bar or something as a snack in the day. Everything else is fruit and veg. Thanks guys.

it is worth getting a body composition done. This will tell you how much fat you really have on your body vs. what is normal/healthy. This will help to determine if your goal is realistic. Usually gyms and nutrition coaches can do a composition for about $30 US.

You do realize that your stomach will expand when it had food in it. Also, sodium and your muscles can cause water retention which will add to the extra cm.

You shouldn't be so obsessed with the number and you shouldn't be taking measurements in the morning and evening. Just take them in the morning and be happy with that number. The more you obsess over the numbers, the more you will eventually just give up because you feel you aren't going anywhere.

Haha I specifically said I didn't want anyone to bother telling me this. I kind of feel like it's the equivalent to telling someone to not worry about the last 10lbs to their goal weight. I already know that about sodium and all involving water retention and I also know that if you put things in your stomach it will make it expand. I'm not dumb, I'm actually pretty smart, just not smart enough to figure out how to reach my goal. And I've only been at it for a week and a bit so I think it's a bit early to give up on my goal! :) thanks anyway for the effort.

If you think about it, all night long you lie in bed, breathing. Every time you exhale, you breathe out CO2 and water. That's what is left over every time you burn a fat, carb, or protein molecule. When you lose weight, that is where it "goes" ! Then, first thing in the morning you get up and pee (and likelly in the middle of the night too).

So, unless you are snacking in the middle of the night, you *have* to weigh less in the morning. Of course, you were really talking about a waist measurement, but the two go together.

If your PM waist measurement is what matters most to you, why not set that as your goal, and only measure yourself in the PM ?
