Not about weight loss, but almost as good........

6 months ago today, I finally quit smoking for good. It was a tough battle, but I finally won in the end. It was something I had been trying to do unsuccessfully for a few years. Every once in a while I would decide it was time to quit because of all the health reasons and of course, the cost. However, i would unfortunately fail. After getting asthma and the cost of a pack kept rising, I decided it was definately time to quit. I went to my Dr and got a prescription for Welbutrin. Cold turkey was NOT for me, as my poor hubby could tell you. Finally, on March 30th I didn't pick up a cigarette in the AM and haven't since!! But don't think that i don't still crave a cigarette, bc believe me i do!! My new job is extremely stressful at some points (though there's no reason it should be) and I think about having one, but of course I don't because I remember all the reasons I quit, cost being the biggest reason, lol. Happy 6 month anniversary to me!!! Now time to go get my nails done and do some window shopping!!!

Congratulations! May not be about weight loss but it certainly has to do with fitness, and, afterall, this is myfitnesspal! Enjoy the manicure :)

Congratulations!! That is a HUGE accomplishment to be proud of. I quit smoking with both of my pregnancies and then restarted...this year i was determined, i gave it up for lent...but then started again after 40 days...i'm still confident that one day i will give it up for good. You deserve to be proud of yourself.

    Congratulations! That is awesome! :)
  • Wow, congrats!!! I have tried to stop twice this year, but life seems to get me down.
  • Congratulations!! I know how hard that journey is, not personally but watching all members of my family try to break the habit and only one succeeding (my mom). She quit smoking after nursing my dad until his death from lung cancer.

It clearly is a brutual addiction and I am so happy you have beaten down the beast and have a healthier future in front of you!

    Huge NSV!!

That's awesome!! As a fellow former smoker (I quit about 8 years ago and haven't touched a cigarette since) I know how challenging it can be. Good for you and here's to your continued success!!

Good for you! On January 17th I would of stopped for 8 years, I still stand next to people who smoke rolies and inhale.. LOL... xx

Keep it up, it wont be long when you look back and think Wow.... Now it has been 8 years xxx :flowerforyou:
  • Good work! Keep it up and never touch one again. I, like you, also used to smoke. I'm in the military. I went to see a plastic surgeon about getting a tummy tuck. He approved a tummy tuck that the Insurance would cover due to medical reasons (and there were medical reasons, it wasn't a bluff or anything like that) but I HAD to quit smoking. 02 March 2011 was my first day smoke free. I get cravings too, but then when I'm around a smoker, just the smell of it makes me want to vomit.

It took abou a month for it to kick in. It was very gradual and almost unnoticable. It was like there was just less and less of a craving for a cigarette and then finally, it was like... why do i need one?? it also improved my mood by quite a bit, said the hubby. I will say I tried Chantix, but that was no bueno 4 me...
