How to get enough calcium when dairy intolerant

Hi I’m Nat and just wondered if there are any non dairy eaters and to ask how do you ensure you get enough calcium as I can’t seem to hit my target unless I have tofu!

    Hi there, and welcome!

Lots of vegetables have calcium. I'm sure you can google a list. Furthermore, just for your info: The food database here is largely user-sourced and might not contain calcium. Heck, in many countries calcium is not even a required entry for nutritional labels. Do you have a calcium deficiency, or ostheoporosis?

Tofu is good, but there are other sources. Soymilk is one, sardines or salmon with the bones, fortified foods (like orange juice or cereal), greens to some extent, etc.

I know you haven't said you're vegan, but the Vegan Health web site has dietitian-prepared information about plant sources of calcium:

Supplements are also an option. One good source of mainstream information about foods, supplements, and other issues is the US NIH professional fact sheet on calcium:

It might be a good idea to have your vitamin D levels checked considering how crucial it is for calcium absorption, maintaining good calcium levels for preventing bone disorders, and just about every other aspect of health for that matter. Probably a good idea to have your K2 levels checked as well. :)
