19 AF days done. It is effortless now as long as I stay home.
@xbowhunter your determination is admirable and will make you successful. You just motivated me to declare AF at least 50% of my trip days. Thank you. I will commit to that today and maybe by the time I leave I'll decide my readiness for 100% AF trip.
Wow the conversation about government / state controlled liquor stores is interesting. I get it now - it encourages people to hoard alcohol in their homes. Now that makes it way harder to not drink.

Thank you for the kind words.
In Ontario they just made it easier to buy booze. They are now selling it in convenience stores. This is 100% about raising more tax dollars. They say they are doing the citizens a Favour, but I say BS to this. If anything, they should make it harder... lol

Boy, I didn’t think I’d start such an ongoing discussion of State & Government run liquor stores. When I started the discussion, I was whining thinking I was the only one is this boat. I guess I was wrong!
@Womona I didn’t watch the whole video either. But I would like to do a 90-day reset. If I did, I would tell myself it was a 90-day experiment. Not that I was quitting forever. Otherwise, I would definitely panic
@KarinSanden I never thought of state or government liquor stores as being “monopolies”. But that is exactly what they are!
Unfortunately, if I had as much booze as you do in your house, I’d be constantly drunk. I would wake up at 3 am (03:00) and say, “what do I feel like this morning?” 🤔
@forestdweller1 Drive-thru daiquiris? Sounds kind of good. Although it seems that it would encourage drinking and driving.
Sorry your childhood was less than desirable. But it sounds like your daughter’s had a wonderful childhood. I googled Ellicott City, MD. It looks really cool!globalhiker wrote: »

I'm working on having an AF day today. Like @xbowhunter said, "I am sick of feeling like crap when alcohol enters my body". I'm also getting tired of waking up not feeling 100%. And not getting things done. Plus the weight is starting to creep back on. I'm still thinking of going 90-Days AF. But I'm not sure if I could do it. I still need to watch the video. It may inspire me!
Have a nice weekend everyone!

@forestdweller1 😂 the tattoo is on my arm. I will post a pic when it’s done. It still has about 3 hrs to go, so it looks a little weird at the moment. A stranger stopped me in the store today to admire what was there so far. I’m even more excited to get it done now!
No wine tonight though I wanted it. Instead my daughter had other plans…
The skate rink here requires adults to stay with children on Friday nights, so I just had to stay and skate😉

@NonnieDoiron OMG this brings back so many memories of the skating rink when I was a tween!!!!!! Hope you had a fun skating night. Thanks for sharing the pic! Can't wait to see the finished and healed tat.6

I finally did it! I got an AF day after a 16 day A streak 🙃

Proud of you, @SurferGirl1982 !!
I'm going to get through this weekend...drinking...and get back on track Monday. I've completely derailed. I'm eating horribly and not moving my body and drinking every night, and it's not making me feel any better.
Have a good weekend everyone!6 -
@SurferGirl1982 Way to Go! Sending you a High-Five!
20 days AF done. I think my taste buds are changing. Last night I wanted something dessert-like and I had nothing like that in the house so I ate an apple like no other. Cosmic Crisp apple from Washington state. Wow was that delicious and I am not kidding. I am not much of fruit fanatic whatsoever and I rarely eat apples. Interesting to see what kind of stuff starts to make your brain happy on a Friday night when you stop drinking.

It was great getting up on skates again, and I found my balance and my groove faster than I thought I would. My daughter on the other hand struggled all night, that picture was her posture most of the time she skated. She just doesn’t relax… kinda like her mom.😉
I did notice that most of the kids were wearing earbuds and listening to their own music. I always liked skating to the loud, obnoxious music played at the rink growing up. Heck! I hate Taylor Swift, but I still hit the rink last night when “Shake it Off” blared unapologetically over the speakers!🤣
I thought I’d be sore this morning, but I feel pretty good, even went for my walk and picked up litter. Now, time for laundry.4 -

@chicbuc Don't beat yourself up! Just get back on track on Monday. If I didn't know better, I would have thought that I had posted your post.
I just went through a 16 day streak of drinking. The same thing for me. I was eating horribly, not moving, not getting any projects done. I was almost at the point of being physically dependent again. Which makes it awfully hard to stop.
I was trying to be AF the whole 16 days. But I would just cave every afternoon. Last night, I thought about getting a 1/2 pint around 6 pm and decided that I really didn't want it. I'm so glad that I made that decision. Getting my first day AF has always been the hardest. But I believe (hope) I can continue on a roll now. I was tired of feeling bad, no energy, no motivation, waking up stiff and in pain. And the weight was creeping up slowly.
I think another thing that motivated me was @xbowhunter and his 90-day goal. Can you imagine how we would feel if we didn't drink for 90 days?
Good luck to you and I really hope you can get back on track on Monday. You can do it 😀

@globalhiker Thanks! You're doing really good. I looks like you've be AF the whole month 🎉
I don't eat apples often either but Cosmic Crisp are good ones. My husband likes Ambrosia apples. But they only seem to be in the stores around Christmas time.7 -
@forestdweller1 Thanks! I was beginning to think I would never get an AF day. I'm going to try my best to keep it up 😺4

Hi All,
I had some things on my mind today. Mostly thinking about the meds my cat is taking. I'm not sure if I like what she's taking. Long story!
Anyways, by choice, I bought a pint of whiskey (375 ml) this afternoon. I'm not upset with myself. I will be back on track tomorrow. I still want to get a really good streak going (possibly even 90 days). But if I do drink, personally for me, I can't drink daily.

Middle Daughter asked me for my last can of water packed tuna today so she could use the "juice" to tempt Bibbs to take his new powdered medicine. He's the elderly feral who was coerced out of the snow & into their home. He loves to play solitaire with MD.
Uncorked a bottle of Malbec tonight. Why ?? Guess just tired of not drinking. As Scarlet says, "Tomorrow is another day".5 -
@forestdweller1 Bibbs looks like he knows solitaire well.
By the way, I read something yesterday about making your own tuna water. Here's what it said; "Tip: You can make your own tuna water by mixing a can of tuna with ~3 cups of water. Mash it up and let it sit for ~10-15 minutes. Then pour the water into ice cube trays to prolong the freshness then store the cubes in a Ziplock bag". I would probably use my immersion blender before putting it in the ice cube trays.
Anyways, I'm just concerned about the meds my cat is taking. It is Methimazole. I read the package insert and it seems scary. I have to give her a dose soon. But it's going to be a half dose. I know you shouldn't change the dose of meds. But I will let my vet know on Monday.
Enjoy your Malbec! Have a nice night!

I told my DH last night that I'm going a week AF. If I ask him to pick me up some wine, he should say no. He very happily agreed - he's been getting concerned about how much I've been drinking lately, and understandably so.

Didn’t get any wine last night like I thought I would. But that’s ok. My weight is up, so I don’t need it anyway.
I’ve been a little miffed at hubby lately. To be fair, I don’t deal with our finances, and it was my choice. I’m good with not having to look at the bills because it stresses me out. BUT… Every time I bring up that I want something or anything regarding money he starts spouting that we have none. Yet, he’s purchased some seriously high-ticket items for himself and his best friend such as very expensive jeans, a larger wood chipper, and is currently looking at a trailer for the 4-wheeler. I’m trying to let it go since I am getting my tattoo done, but it’s just really annoying to keep hearing it EVERY TIME I want/need something. He’s been doing this for a while which is why I think he gave me a little bit of cash towards my tattoo the other day… he realized he keeps doing it to me. And, I honestly DO NOT ask for much. I buy groceries, not clothes. I just don’t spend a great deal, never have. I’ve been saying for weeks I need to get a couple pairs of workout pants that have a pocket for my phone, but I have yet to go get them because I don’t like buying clothes. I keep convincing myself I don’t really need them. I just need to lose more weight, so I can fit in the old ones that have a pocket, and it’s almost winter and that’s different workout clothes with a hoodie that has a pocket for my phone. Anyway, all that to say, I’m just really tired of hearing how we don’t have money, and then it magically appears when HE wants to buy something.
Rant over, I guess. 😕🤷🏻♀️9 -

21 days AF. Plan is to make today an AF day. I used to drink weekend afternoons out of boredom and because my spouse drank also. Now my weekends are spent watching my power-drinking husband. Maybe it's a good idea on your drinking days (I tell him) if you started a bit later on in the day and set a time to stop. Ya know, starting at 11 am and stopping at 7 pm is just not a good idea for anyone, especially someone over 60 years old. Our bodies are less tolerant and less resilient and more prone to breaking down. I worry about my future and hope my spouse makes some improvements regarding quantity, for us.
Come next year I need a strong and healthy husband who will travel to Europe and hike the Alps in different countries, not a partner who comes down with an alcohol initiated physical illness.7 -
We went to a wedding last night. I had some minor success. In a bag, I brought a big bottle of Perrier and 6 cans of Lacroix (seltzer water). So, I would order a vodka soda and then I'd keep refilling my glass with my Lacroix. The act of drinking out of this glass was enough to trick my mind that I'm still having fun. Drank a ton of the seltzer and woke up today with no headache. (Like I said before I am tired of playing these games and setting rules for myself, but it is what it is right now.)

After a big day of spring cleaning yesterday, we met my parents at a bar on the beach to catch up. I planned to just have a soda water, but my parents are the ultimate enablers lol, so I ended up having 3 glasses of wine. Worse, they were the big ones, so I basically had a bottle.
Victory was coming home around 5:30 and STOPPING. Switched to water. I was still in bed by 9, didn't sleep well and today I have a headache and I'm really cranky.
Another lesson learned.

I have managed to not drink alcohol for the entire month, survived 3 birthday parties by offering to drive, until yesterday. Very strange! I had this unbelievable hard workout and the CrossFit center, one of those where you are pale white with blue lips at the end.
When I got home I was so desperate for a beer. I DEMANDED A BEER! And just for your understanding - I NEVER drink beer... I'd rather have water.
But yesterday after training, and before any food - I had a ice cold beer. It was the best thing ever. Very strange and surprising.

This weekend I survived 3 gatherings where the alcohol was freely flowing and not once did, I feel the urge to indulge in the poison! lol12 -
22 AF days done and on to day 23. I had a Mango-flavored Soleil fizzy water and it was nice. I'll try some other flavors from this brand.
I can so relate to wanting an ice cold drink after an exhausting workout. My happiest moments drinking wine were always after a day-long hike somewhere in the mountains and sitting down to a table and enjoying a cold pinot grigio, empty stomach and all. It mixes well with the endorphins in my system. My husband and I used to do challenging hikes in snow and scramble up mountains on all fours practically. Or climb short sections that felt like a straight vertical incline using chains. Having a wine right after that and being happy I didn't die was pretty good. Another fun time was hiking thru our national forest, crossing a wash that had running water waist-deep, making it to a lakeshore restaurant by lunch, spitting a pitcher of beer and nachos, only to turn around and trail-run under the influence all the way back to get back to the trail head parking lot before it got dark. 20 miles that day.5 -
