I am so disappointed in myself. I start something for myself but I never follow thru with it until the end. I want to loose weight but I don't take the time to do thing work required. I loose motivation so easily :( I get going and am all pumped up about it then in short period of time I am out of my routine and I am back to my old habits. I feel like this makes me not only a fat person but like a terrible person. I want this for myself but I let everything get in my way.... Chores, farm work, animals, do this do that but nothing ever gets done for Alicia for me and I am sick and tired of it!! How do I keep the spark alive? Why do I get burnt out so easily? Am I really a terrible person because I say I want this but I have yet to accomplish anything :( I am at my breaking point .... something has to give

You're not a bad person at all! You just need to find what motivates YOU. Set some mini-goals that you can easily achieve. It may help with getting discouraged!

I totally know what you are feeling.. We have to understand that we have to put ourselves first.. Without us at our BEST nothing else will fall in place properly.. Don't think of it as a failure.. Take it one day at a time.. That is the only way to do it.. Sounds like you have an extremely busy life, sometimes that will get us off track.. We just need to get right back on.. We're all here for you.. Don't feel like your alone because your not, you have a whole website behind you.. Good luck on your journey... Feel free to add me as a friend if you'de like.. We can keep each other on the right path..

You are NOT a terrible person and you ARE just like 90% of us probably :) I am scared everyday that I am going to lose my motivation to keep going...but my secret that I truly believed has helped me is I am finally praying about it...I know it sounds crazy, but it realllllly has helped me! So far I am 3 months in and still feel as motivated today as I did on day 1, if not more. I know you can do it!

You need to sit down an define why you want to do it. And write it down so that your mind can visually see it. Then you have to really want it. People who fail at this do because the desire isn't as strong as they think it is. Post your goal on your fridge, on your bathroom mirror, on your car visor and any other place you frequent. The constant daily reminder will change your outlook.
You gotta hate being fat more that hating dieting, exercising and being disciplined. If not, then you'll fall off again. Good luck.

Seems like you have a pretty active life, so if there is an issue, it must be nutrition. You seem to think that losing momentum is the problem, but this is where the concept of lifestyle vs. a project mentality is key. Don't think of your weight loss as a project. Honesty is a must. Logging your food consumption honestly will give you a true picture of your habits and pitfalls. Also, identifying foods that you and your family really like, but are also nutritious and lower calorie is really an advantage. Don't be so concerned that you give up, but honestly identify WHY you give up. What is there to be burnt out about? Don't make it so hard. It simply will not always be perfect, but make sure 95% of the time is done as planned. For me, the biggest thing that has helped is creating good habits and replacing bad habits with healthier habits. Habits will help autopilot parts of your plan when motivation is weaker (because it is simply HOW you are living now). Good luck!
  • Yes, many people were like you describe before we found what worked for us, that got us past the initial obstacles that always defeated us before. Once you're on the path you can keep adjusting and adapting to what is and is not working, take on new challenges, mix things up to keep it interesting, buy new equipment, whatever. But you are right that it is figuring out a way to start getting out of the hole, and the falling back down that is discouraging at first.

For me, a number of factors combined to help me get past those obstacles that always kept defeating me. AGE: I realized I didn't have forever to get past my weight problems before I started getting life style diseases that I could have avoided AND would make it even harder for me to exercise and get fit. A REALIZATION that all that mattered was what would work for me and be safe, regardless of what worked for anyone else, so I quit the gym because my work hours and commute time meant I hardly ever had the time and energy to get there. A SACRIFICE to give up (disassemble and give away) my nice workbench in the basement to make room for an elliptical, which I had to also sacrifice money I could have spent on something else (granted, not everyone can do this). A DISTRACTION while I used the elliptical of watching DVD movies, 35 minutes a night, about 1 movie every 3 nights (action movies seem the best distraction). A new HABIT of getting changed out of my work clothes every night into my work out clothes and then going down and doing the elliptical and some weights before then coming back up and changing into my comfort clothes.

Your solution may be different. Try to pretend you found the solution and work yourself backwards, describing how you did it just as I explained above. The more likely and practical the story you come up with the more likely it might actually work. Just be safe and keep the faith.
