Anyway, I'm feeling very down today, but won't be drinking. I have to pick my DH up from the airport tonight, and I never drink when I have to drive.
Oh, I’m so terribly sorry for your loss! It’s so tough to lose someone you love so much. Grieving is a one step up, two steps back process. Big hug to you!

Two glasses of wine last night. One was at a “sip and shop”. I didn’t even really want wine but kind of felt that “when in Rome” feeling, so walked around the vendor tables with a wine in hand. Because God forbid I didn’t, right????
Today is yet another new day. Let’s all make it great.6 -

So sorry for you loss, hang in there and think about the good memories you shared.4 -
@itladyee SO great to see you back, you are an important member on this less alcohol thread! That’s why we’re all here, to support each other.
@SparkSpringtime69 sending a big hug over the loss of your SIL. Remember to take care of yourself through this difficult time.
@xbowhunter Happy Birthday! You have a lot to celebrate especially with your resolve to quit drinking! Woo hoo 🎉
I’ve had better months with more AF days myself, and will again, but I also need to celebrate that I have created healthier habits and cut WAY BACK going on two years. I have lots to be thankful for and you are all part of that! I know I couldn’t do this without you.5 -
Thank you all for the kind condolences and hugs. It has really helped me through today.4

Still tired… dog woke me up at 2:30 this morning barking because hubby left him outside when he came in to use the bathroom. 🙄
Stopped at the store tonight for a bottle of wine, so I can sit by the fire and enjoy it tonight.4 -
@SparkSpringtime69 I haven't been posting much. I'm going through a bit of a rough patch myself.
But I wanted to say that I am so sorry to hear about you SIL...so sad!
Please take care of yourself and your family...Hugs!3 -
@SparkSpringtime69 sending hugs & strength for you
@Michieb125 I think you mentioned this is not a race but I do see it as one big obstacle course, I guess that is life in general. And those obstacles are of all different sizes and types, many that look impossible, some unexpected. This journey for me feel likes Ninja Warrior to me.
Life is incredibly WAY better on the sober side. I can go to the market at 6pm in a state of ravenous hunger and exhaustion and not for a second think about the wine aisle. I love that.
2 months and 14 AF days done.11 -
@SparkSpringtime69 So sorry for your loss. Take care of yourself.
@SurferGirl1982 Sorry you're having a tough time. Take care of yourself, also.
Checking in with my wine habit. I've definitely had more A days that AF days lately. We had some friends in town this week that we've met for dinner and drinks a few times. We might go to another friend's bar to watch the fight tonight which would involve drinks, but then I'm going to shoot for AF for the 10 days leading up to a camping trip to north Georgia for our youngest daughter's wedding.
Have a great weekend, all!
AF = 8
A = 7 (including tonight)7 -
@globalhiker a big obstacle course! I like that. You are truly inspiring with your incredible AF days.
Hope you enjoyed your run the other day. I’ve always admired runners!6 -
@chicbuc great to see you here today! Congrats on your youngest daughters upcoming wedding!
The scale is finally back down at a reasonable number - that’s motivating for me to see when I have been working on sticking to calories and my personal limits.
On that note, while at the grocery store the other night, I bought 6 bottles of the Kendall Jackson low alcohol Chardonnay on deep discount (never seen it for $10.00 - usually $14-$15). Put them in the wine refrigerator. It’s very light and two is enough for 170 calories and 8% total on a wine day. Had this a few times this week. I’m going to look for the zero proof red wine someone mentioned recently.
I am committing to NA today and tomorrow and have some new sparkling waters and caramel apple celestial seasonings tea awaiting.
Going to get outside for a nice long walk soon and get organized around here.
Let’s make it a great day, today!7 -
Great job everyone!
AF - 61
A - none since Sep 15th 2024.
Just a little side note here. Back on Sep 14th when I had my last drink, I was 165lbs and feeling just awful pretty much every day because of my daily drinking habit.
Now I am down to 142lbs and feeling energetic and focused all day and my sleep is 100% better.
So, if any of you are wondering what life would be like alcohol free there is a bit of a snippet to what you can expect.
This Christmas will be very interesting because it will be my first time ever not drinking. I will need to stay busy and, on my game, to put certain people in their place when they give me the usual peer pressure to conform to their desire for me to poison myself again. I can see a few heated debates are coming but I am ready and will not allow anyone to disrespect me for their own gain. I will not be be dragged down to their sad and miserable level.
Cheers and have a great weekend everyone.

@annliz23 ~ you've got a lot going on, and I feel for you. Do the best you can. @michieb125 had some great suggestions to deal with the stress. Do what works for you at this time. We are hear to support.
@breathe57103 ~ I hope you are enjoying your grandbabies!
@surfergirl1982 ~ It rained Wednesday but it was the first time in a long time and I don't expect any more until a light shower on Sunday. The weather is a little odd for this time of year, but I'm not complaining!! The key thing in this challenge is to not throw in the towel, keep trying and you will get there.
@SparkSpringtime69 ~ Congrats on 4 days vacation, AF! You are right about the habit part as sometimes I'm cracking open a bottle of wine without any thought. So sorry to here about your SIL.
The good news is have my grandson this weekend. That is pretty much a guarantee that I will be AF. Sometimes he can be a handful, though, and I might want a glass of wine once I finally get him down...but it will definitely be a LA day if that's the case.
AF = 1
A = 137 -
Thanks @chicbuc You hadn't posted for a while and I was hoping you were OK. Happy to see you back!
@itladyee I can't believe you're having better weather than us *LOL* My mom grew up in Erie, PA. She used to complain about the cold. But, mostly the wind. I guess the wind coming off of those lakes can be a bit chilly! I was there twice when I was young (but it was summertime). I had two uncles and aunts that lived there. It's very pretty.
Don't worry, I'm not going to throw in the towel. I will get back to where I was. The only thing is that most of you are deciding if you should have one glass of wine or two. I'm back to waking up at 2 o'clock in the morning and mixing a drink. Eventually, I'm able to go back to bed. That's not how I chose to live. I WILL get over this!
And @xbowhunter you are very motivating. Even though you are now NA, it's nice to hear from you. It gives some of us hope...like me!
Thanks for all of your support!

I am still succeeding on my less alcohol journey. I am really looking forward to the day that I don't have any thoughts about alcohol and no decision to make. My drinking buddy is coming for a 5 night visit this coming week. I plan to remain AF.
AF - 14
A - 1 (11/7 - 3 standard drinks)
Keep fighting the fight and have a great LA weekend

@xbowhunter your post about people who may potentially disrespect you really resonated with me. I have one family member who is able to do this and never take ownership for her actions. You can stay strong. My life motto is don’t ever let anyone take away your own integrity. Keep inspiring us in this way!
@itladyee from one G ma to another, have a wonderful time with your grand baby! I remember (I think last year) when you announced the new little one way on their way.

I made myself an AF Chocolate expresso martini

Had more than I should’ve Friday.
Son had a powerlifting competition on Saturday we had to travel to. He competed wonderfully! Broke a couple state records, lifted 3 times his body weight with a 180kg/397lb deadlift, and earned a sponsorship for all 2025 competitions! I am proud of him, his Special Olympics team who all had stellar gold medal performances, and my husband who is there coach!
We ate at a dry restaurant, checked into the hotel, and lights were out by 7:30.
It is now 12:30 Sunday morning, and I cannot sleep. It had nothing to do with drinking. I don’t sleep well in hotels typically and hubby doesn’t have his CPAP (snoring). Anyway, probably leaving the hotel around 6:00 for coffee and hit the road home, so we can grab my daughter and get to church on time.8 -
Happy Sunday morning!
Has anyone noticed all the promotions of holiday liquor in the stores now!? I have thought twice now about buying a small liqueur to have on hand. I have been successful in averting that thought but it just seems the aisles are extra stocked as the companies push alcohol and glamorize it especially during the holidays.
I’m having fun planning my daughters surprise birthday dinner with my SIL. It’s next weekend with four couples and 3 kiddies….hope it will be special for her. Alcohol isn’t an issue at family get togethers (much to be thankful for) because some don’t drink now and others may have one cocktail or one glass of wine with dinner.
Yesterday, I walked 4k again! Then had two glasses of low alcohol wine last night and one regular so yes, LA. Just unplanned. Thankful today is a new day!6 -
Okay, @MissMay , now you've done it !! I used to make my own "Kahlua" [recipie from a priest] and your Fever Tree photo brought back fond memories. What do you add to the mixer ?? Lyres ?? 🍸3
-
@MissMay I could use one of those AF espresso martinis right now! Looks delicious.
78 days AF done. But it felt like day 1 since I had zero chocolates and no snacks and dieted today. Hungry and I can't sleep but I'll go find some melatonin in the house and try that.7 -

You should just tell them you’re pregnant! 🤣. That’ll shut ‘em up!
Amazing how much weight you were able to lost just by cutting out alcohol. I suspect “those last five pounds” I’ve been trying to lose forever is the alcohol.5 -
Keep up the good work everyone and watch for those I need a drink triggers! It's just your brain craving a dopamine drain. Don't let it win7
-
Hello everyone! @NonnieDoiron congrats on your son’s big win!!!! I’m so happy for him (and you!). How incredible to get all those sponsorships!
@chicbuc and @itladyee nice to see you can on here!
@SurferGirl1982 so sorry to hear you’re going through a rough patch. May it clear up soon. Big hug!
@MissMay I’m not a big one for chocolate or espresso martinis, but boy of boy, does that look delicious! May have to give it a try!
Time to wean myself down to no more than one LA wine per day. This is getting ridiculous. So far only 2 AF days this month, and while AF isn’t my goal, I also can’t sustain 2 or more drinks per every day, especially on weekends when it winds up being more!
On a good note, I had a very productive weekend. Helped hubby clean out the garage and part of the attic, and did a ton of paperwork. Still need to put the rest of the boat stuff down into the basement , but will do that this week. I am hosting a work meeting at my house this Friday so it’s great motivation to get everything done!6 -
Going to a Zumba class this AM and then strength training tomorrow. Have a lot more energy lately but crawling to get more AF days under my belt.
To thwart off having A tonight, I plan to have a Recess zero alcohol mocktail or N.A. beer tonight.5 -
Only one glass of wine with dinner tonight! Yay me! I don’t even want the second glass.
Of course, let’s not talk about me going over my calories today. Tennis tomorrow, not really worries about it. But restaurant meals definitely pack on more weight than home cooked!3 -

Irritated. Doctor finally relayed the test results and said not to take my iron, drink more water, and stretch.😡5 -
@NonnieDoiron ..... started taking iron each day per Dr instructions a couple years ago because I had dropped 30 pounds in less than a month. COVID related inability to taste food, so didn't /couldn't [gag-yuck] eat. Continued to take iron after the prescription ran out until I read recently that this could affect my liver....and alcohol was probably doing enough damage, so I quit. Water and stretching are good ....all natural ...LOL. Still using cast iron cookware.
Have a glass of H2O on me...and 7 more.5 -
Marked last night as an A day, but didn’t do it.
So actual counts are
AF - 9
A - 9
Thanks @forestdweller1. I’ve been on iron for years. And, once I came off, my cramps came back with a vengeance. It’s very painful and often wakes me up in the middle of the night.
I think I’m also irritated because he put me on prednisone, and I just finished day 3. I snapped at the husband last night. I hate what this medicine does to me.7
