So I am on the 3rd day of 30DS. Anyway yesterday after I did it I could hardly walk and today my leg has been so tight and very painful. So I just did Zumba 10 mins thinking it would loosen the muscles up and it honestly made a large improvement but then I started 30DS and my leg was so tight. Not cramping tight but very very close to it like it, you know when you are stretching and you pull your toes back how it pulls at all the muscles like that. So I am wondering if this is normal? I have had stiffness and pain after workouts but never this degree of tightness.
I stopped the workout after 8mins because I just wouldn't handle jumping anymore.
I have read that there is limited stretching in 30DS and honestly compared to the sports ect i have done I tend to agree.
Anyway do you think I should rest or push through it?

Pain is usually an indication that your body thinks you should stop.
If you really couldn't handle jumping, then stopping was the right move. Ease back into it some other time.
It won't help you in any way to injure yourself. There's nothing wrong with an 8-minute workout now and picking up some more later; especially not compared to doing 9 minutes and then having to go to the emergency room.
That's my thought, anyway. I'm no expert, but my general rule is that there is pain through which you should push and pain that means, "Stop now!" It sounds like you were in the second category to me.
If it happens a lot, getting advice from a doctor or trainer is never a bad idea.0 -
I would rest for sure! Next time take it a little slower.0

I know 30 DS is supposedly meant to be done every day, but I just couldn't do it, especially at the beginning. I do it every second or third day but I also do cardio daily at my gym and yoga classes twice a week. If it hurts too much, don't push through it. You could injure yourself further.0

30 DS has very limited stretching in the beginning. i advise that you at least double your stretching before doing it.
take a couple of days off. trust me, if it takes you 40 days to do 30 day shred, you'll still be a good person.0 -
I had the same problem. I started doing 10 minutes of yoga in the morning and then again at nite, plus stretching for 5 minutes before any workout. Helped alot!!!!!0

Agree with more stretching, also, sub the "boxing" for jumping when your legs complain.0

Take a rest day from 30DS, even two. Go for a walk instead!0

I think it is the jumping causing this. I am fine with squats I can do more squats than what is on 30DS. It is my calf, mainly my right. And today it got better with zumba the moment I started jumping jacks and general jumping the tightness went straight back to as bad as it was when i woke up this morning. Even if it wasn't in pain when i woke up I still would of been hobbling around because it was so tight I couldn't move it well. By the third round of jumping jacks it felt so tight like I could only manage to get 2cm (pretty sure I remember you using metric) off the ground because of it.
It is just a pain normally if i am sore I workout again and it slowly fades as I workout but this is tightness and it just gets worse. Anyway this is why I stopped I was afraid of tearing something.0 -

My son is on school holidays currently normally I walk 2x 50mins with the pram too and from school (totals 8km a day five days a week) I should probably start walking the dog so it isn't a shock after not walking for 2 1/2 weeks thanks for the idea
I think I am going to leave the 30DS until my leg isn't so tight then go back to it maybe don't push the cardio side so much. I have been debating my resistance band workouts looks like that is what I will be up to for the next few days.
Such a pain I am in heals for my uniform tomorrow0 -
Ah, just remembered something I did to diminish calf pain, I almost always shred barefoot and so, when jumping, stay on my toes (maintaining a lot of tension). After doing it for about a week (and having accumulative calf pain and starting to get sore ankles and knees), the thought occurred to me that the shred girls are all wearing trainers and that maybe their heels touch down each time, even if it's just lightly, allowing them to release the tension in their lower calves. So, I made a concerted effort to land toe, heel when jumping and noticed the whole procedure to be slightly less painful. The other thing, I think someone suggested, when doing the skip rope, if it hurts, start jumping from one foot to the other (like we all probably did back when we actually skipped rope).
When you stretch the legs after, make a point of gently pulling your toes back towards you, this is the only way I have found to tug on that muscle while stretching.
Well observed, am indeed thinking in metric :-) (although hanging out on this darn site has me rushing for the google converters all the time ha ha).
PS Heels are the dumbest shoe design ever of all time! :-P0 -

You said on another post how when you talk about cal when Australia (possibly) uses kj you feel silly. Idk if you noticed but i quoted it and said i have a thing on my phone for quick and easy converting. I am in Australia and said inches today instead of cm! I felt like I should of sunk into a giant hole! I am getting mighty good at quickly converting lbs into kg and inches into cm.
I will start wearing shoes and see if I can get those heels on the ground when I jump. Thank you!
I agree fully about the heels! What a stupid shoe design! I need to wear them for my church uniform otherwise I wouldn't bother with them! Much prefer joggers or flats!0
