Some FACTS on starvation and Very low calorie diets

with all this stuff circulating on starvation mode, I wanted to bring a few articles to the table. Unfortunately my subscription to the New England Journal of Medicine ran out, and it's probably a little to technical to bring to this board anyway (it's brutal, I have to read each article like 4 times just to figure things out sometimes, but I'm obsessive like that, I'll do it just because)
Anyway, here are the straight facts, I suggest reading these and then making your own decisions instead of hearing the multitude of well intentioned but ultimately amateur (myself included) theories floated on the site.
http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/calories/burning_calories/starvation.htm
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/changingshape4.htm
http://www.vaxa.com/weight-loss-starvation.cfm
http://www.burnthefat.com/Very-Low-calorie-Diet.html
I hope these article help people make more informed decisions and put an end to many of these round robin discussions.(at least until the next crop starts asking )

I know it's obnoxious, but I don't care, I'm bumping my own thread because people NEED to read the facts on very low calorie consumption. Please read these article. If you then have some factual evidence to dispute them feel free to chime in. But really, can we stop just "saying" starvation mode is a myth? If you have read that it is (and please, real facts only, not other bloggers) post the link so we can all look for ourselves.0

Yes I believe in starvation mode HOWEVER, people seem to be misunderstanding it,
from http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/calories/burning_calories/starvation.htm
"as a general rule though, most nutrition experts recommend never going below 1,000-1,200 calories a day if you're dieting on your own. It's also worth bearing in mind that the body doesn't suddenly 'enter' and 'leave' starvation mode, like crossing the border from Devon into Cornwall. It's a gradual process - so you don't need to panic if you do go below your calorie intake very occasionally."
so please, just because you went under for a day or two, ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD!!!!0 -
Thanks for the info. Bump!0
