Hello friends,

I have lost almost 50lbs so far through this website. When I was at my largest I bought a suite for job interviews, weddings, etc. It's the only one I own as I don't need to wear one often. I now how a wedding coming up and need a suite for it. Will a tailor be able to tailor this suite down to fit me? It's pretty damn big on me. Jos A Bank is having a buy 1 suite get 2 suites free sale right now. I'm also thinking of taking advantage of that, but that will involve spending money. I want to go with whatever option will look best on me.

Thoughts?

you've lost alot! I dont know if they would be able to take your old one in and it still even be shaped right! This is a GOOD problem you have! Id take the old one to a sewing place and let them take a look at you in it. Maybe they can do it! You wont know till you try it tho!
  • I would send the suit you have to a consignment shop to be sold. While there look for another in your current size. If that isn't doable where you live - it would be fine to consult a seamstess about altering your suit - but as a 10-15 pound loss is a full size, then almost a 50 pound loss is several sizes. Altering will be more remaiking the suit, so be sure to get an estimate first. It may be less expensive and fit better just to buy a new one.

It is a GOOD problem to have - think how great you will look in one that fits! Way to go on the weight loss!

Much easier to take in than it is to take out.

The real issue isn't the weight you've lost but the inches. The adjustments have to be done at the seams, which means that you end up having things like your back pockets on trousers moving closer to each other, or jacket pockets moving towards the side and under your arms if you've lost a lot.

The advice of taking it to a tailor and asking is the best. I wear suits quite frequently, so have gone for the option of buying a new (cheap) one when needed, but am about to need to dust off my dinner jacket (tux) for the winter and fear it will feel a little too baggy!
