    Hi, @Millejon6743

You’re probably not going to get any response. There is very little value to having “friends” here on MFP, after they did away with the friends newsfeed back in June.

I really wish they’d do away with the threads about friends. It serves no point, unless you want to share private messages with another user.

I’m loud, vociferous, and on here all the time, and even I haven’t had a private message since June- other than obvs romance or bitcoin type scammers wanting to friend me. Yeah, that’s a thing here, same as everywhere else.

Your best bet is to follow the boards, get involved, ask questions, maybe join a challenge over on the “challenges”page, or seek a group that’s active. Not many are, but there’s a few.

I assure you, the other users who frequent here are friendly, helpful and want you to succeed.

No question is too out there or too dumb. Trust me. I’ve asked some real doozies.

    I don't accept FR anymore.

The last few turned out to be scammers looking for easy $$...

If you want to use the friend feature, why are you not just sending out requests yourself? I don’t know of many people using that feature or accepting friend requests any more, but if it’s important to you, then perhaps direct action might be more satisfying for you.

I've been on MFP for years, under different names (new phone, new ID, cause I'm electronically challenged). I still don't know how to add friends or what good it does to add them.
But I like to talk, so let's be friends here.

I Don't Know how to Friend

...and that right there is yet another reason the "friends" feature doesn't have value. I stopped using the friend thingy too.

I think you just click on their name in the forum, then "View Profile" then click "Myfitnesspal Profile" then "Add as friend." Then that person has to agree to your request. Like xbowhunter above, I don't accept friend requests any more. Too spammy.

Good luck. I agree that the way to interact is to join a group thread (like in Motivation and Support) and then just check back regularly.

There are several "clicks..." and I'm giving you instruction for the website/browser version. If you're on an App you'll have to fiddle around with it until you get to their actual profile page:

To sow less confusion "...join a group thread (like in Motivation and Support) ..." is confusing, because you are using the word 'group' and that is a misnomer.

MFP has a big, worthless, unused, confusing feature called 'Groups' which do not serve any of us users. There about 30K defunct, unused Groups in MFP.

On the webpage, at the very top, (which is the most valuable place in a webpage) there is the link: "Groups." Why? "Groups" are not functional. The other "invite Friends" is also unclear, as this isn't for MFP friends, but to harvest our own personal contacts to join as new users into MFP. "Invite one of you personal contacts to become a New MFP User" not 'friends.'

To be pedantic (and clear) "Motivation and Support" is a fixed category within a message board.

    "Groups" are elsewhere, and broken.

Not to be calling you out @cmriverside, I'm calling out the broken nature of the MFP platform and the direction it has been heading over the last 5-10 years.

Clicking "Groups" at the top will not get you to "Motivation and Support" and clicking "Invite Friends" at the top will not help the OP add MFP Friends.

@chris_in_cal you're absolutely correct. Thanks for that.

@Millejon6743 as you can see, we're not happy with how hard it is to "add friends" so go to one of these subforums I've linked below, find an ongoing discussion/thread you like and start posting in it. You'll get more out of this site that way than trying to add some random people who will disappear tomorrow.

Can't help you with the App...I don't use it.

I'm nearly a month in using Fitness community and all I get is older men adding me 🫠🫠 where's my girls at... It would be nice if I could have like a WhatsApp group for just people my age group and/or just girls... Cause I'm tired of seeing older men 50+ years old adding me....Sorry, not sorry.

If (in their profile pics) they are stacked, have pet photos, in uniform, or a group of two or three men studying plans, they’re also romance scammers. Please be cautious.

@springlering62 Thanks for the heads up. To be honest I think I've made my decision to not use the community side of it anymore. I've had pet photo accounts, no profile pic or It's just them but like still... I haven't been on the community flirting or anything I wanted legit support and encouragement. Can't even get that.
I hope you keep safe and enjoy your time on the app. Take care girlie 🖤✨

    Hi, @Millejon6743, and welcome.

I'm with cmriverside: There are good threads in the areas she linked, and different ones have different styles or subcultures. If you read some of those, you may find some that look fun or useful for you. They will say how to join in, in the first post . . . or if there are no special instructions, just join in by posting your own reply on the thread.

Don't be dismayed if you look at some and see old posts. There are some threads that have been running for a long time, and the oldest posts will be on the first page, the newest posts at the high-numbered pages at the end. You can jump straight to the newest ones by using the number/arrow links near the top/bottom of each page of the thread. If they're on the first page or two in the sub-forum, they've generally been active recently.

In addition to those areas, you can read around in other parts of the Community, and find threads where people post about meals they're eating, activities/exercises they're doing, or just chat. Again, if there aren't special instructions in the first post, generally you can just dive in and reply to participate. Please don't be anxious about doing that: IME, most people here are pretty nice and want to help, though I admit communication styles range from warm'n'fuzzy to "tough love". Pay attention to what helps you personally, ignore what doesn't, and there can be good value here.

Any of those things are ways to virtually meet people here on MFP, and find some that are on your wavelength.

I hope we'll see you participating in the Community, and I wish you success with your goals, whatever they may be: The results are worth the effort!

How can a person find a community of like-minded individuals on the same page to build a healthier person within themselves?

How can a person find a community of like-minded individuals on the same page to build a healthier person within themselves?

@WiseGraywolf, if you read through the thread above, ignoring the posters complaining about one thing and another, there are a few posts that actually suggest how to find support, help, and that sort of thing here in the MFP Community. Those posts talk about joining in threads that provide that kind of thing here, many of them in the Challenges or Motivation sub-topics, and one post above provides direct links to those areas.

If you don't want to wade through the posts above, here's a link that talks about some of the ways MFP users can connect with one another to get support, answers to questions, create a sense of accountability in themselves, and that sort of thing:

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10918673/finding-support-and-like-minded-people-in-the-mfp-community#latest

Personally, I've gotten a lot out of participating in the MFP Community discussions in the time I've been here. That's taken the form of encouragement, sharing new ideas to try, being inspired by others' efforts and progress, and more.

Wishing you success, both here on MFP in connecting with others, and with your overall goal of building a healthier self!
