    Do you have specific questions?

I see that you haven't gotten any replies. "What are your thoughts" is a pretty general question.

There have been quite a few threads in Getting Started or Health and Weight Loss topics where people using the drugs talk about their experience. It would probably be easiest to find those using the MFP Community search function (magnifying glass near top right of the page), where you could search for words/phrases like "GLP-1", "semaglutide" (<=== note different spelling of drug; your thread title has a typo), brand names like "Wegovy", "Ozempic", "Rybelus", etc. Quite a few people have mentioned using these drugs.

Over in the Debate Club area, there are a couple of threads. One is about whether people think using the drugs is cheating, though that might not be what you're looking for. There's at least one other there that's about marketing. Be aware that Debate Club is a bit more "gloves off", frank and . . . well, debate-y, compared to the rest of the Community, though it's still supposed to stay civil.

    Best wishes for success!

I have no particular thoughts one way or the other. They’re a great tool for a lot of people and they get good results. Personally, I wouldn’t touch them with a 100 foot pole. One of the well-known side effects is gastroparesis (paralysis of the stomach). I’ve had gastroparesis in the past and it was absolutely hellish. I was EXTREMELY lucky in that mine resolved after 2 and a half years and I never needed a feeding tube, but most aren’t that lucky. The slightest possibility that could happen again keeps me far from the GLP-1 meds. But that doesn’t happen to everyone, or even most people. They’re a good option for a lot of people, they should just know what they could be getting into and assess the risk for themselves. But that’s true for any medicine…

My thought? You are presumably old and educated enough to have researched, weighed pros vs cons, and made an informed decision, one which no one else can - or has the right to - do for you.

This was precisely what I did when given a prescription for a thyroid medication six years ago, one with a frighteningly large pamphlet, which got my attention.

I decided to lose weight (a lot of weight) so I wouldn’t have to take it.

Had GLPs been available then, I would have considered it because I am basically lazy. I am very grateful they weren’t, because I proved to myself that I could make up my mind to set a goal and follow through for a change.

Not knocking anyone who makes a personal choice to use a GLP, but this is an accomplishment I’m fiercely proud of. It seemed insurmountable at the time.

Whatever you choose to do, do it right. Don't rely on a medication to do it all for you. Better health and mobility is THE best gift you can give yourself.
