I just started my journey to weight loss again, I have some Nike's that I wear at work, school, and gym and they have lost their "support" (if they ever had any) so im tossing those out, Im buying a comfy pair of white shoes for work, and I want a REALLY good pair of work out shoes, I dont have alot of shoe options in the city im located at...mostly people sell Nike's, Sketchers, and Reeboks.

Can ya'll recommend a good workout/running shoe?

I usually do a workout class and then walk on the treadmill (3 miles, 5 days a week is my October goal) (& im going to start working myself up to use and tolerate the elliptical) and then I do work out machines (for arms and legs)

Any help is appreciated! (Please note the brands above though, id love to have them ASAP instead of ordering offline, but if I must then I must!)

Thank you!

I can't say anyone can recomend a certain brand. Try every pair on and see what you find to fit and comfortable.

I've always used New Balance because Nikes are hard to find in wide sizes, so I don't have a specific model to suggest, but you should probably look at a cross trainer. I actually ran in my NB cross trainers for the first few months after I started running since I wasn't going long distances and they performed awesomely. Make sure there's enough room in the toes, especially if you're going to work up to the elliptical. People complain of numbness in their toes when they use them and it's usually due to the toes getting compressed.

I got Nike In-Season TR's when I started C25K because I had no running shoes
These are EXTREMELY comfortable. They do not have a tongue and so they're practically slip-ons. Also they have a thick memory foam insole. They haven't lost any shape or support and I have been running 3 days a week in them and playing basketball.

here's the pair I got (if you go to nike.com, they have them for $70, which is what i paid and they have 4 different colors)

I have asked my friends how they decide on their running shoes and they've all recommended that I go to a store where the employees can actually analyze your stride and recommend certain types of shoes for you and the right size (they're telling me you normally get a slightly bigger size than your 'street shoes'). I haven't been yet b/c I'm still new at this and quite self conscious about having anyone 'analyze' me. LOL

Barefoot!!! That's how I do pretty much everything now.

In all seriousness though, shoes are too personal to easily recommend one over another. Before the wife and I got into the barefoot thing she swore by New Balance but I could never wear them. They hurt my feet. Now we both agree on barefoot though so life is good.

I really love Ryka shoes, if you can't get them where you live you can order online. They're SO incredibly supportive.

That being said I agree with everyone here, try some for yourself and if all else fails, stick to what you know
  • I love my Ryka's. They are great for high impact work. I Jazzercise 3 times a week. I replace my shoes every 6-9 months. You can order them online and most are true to fit.

I went to a store where the lady watched me walk and asked what I was using the shoes for. She suggested some in a size bigger and I couldn't be happier. And my feet don't go numb now
  • If there is a Fleet feet store within driving distance , go there. The sneaker are $100 - 125 but they look at the way you walk. The shoes will fit. It was worth the drive and extra money because I can walk for hours without my back hurting. Best of luck.
  • :flowerforyou: Thanks everyone for your support! New shoes are in store for me come Friday! I appreicate all the advice!
