When Ever I have a rest day i feel so blah and like i should be working out.
But people say that you should have a day to rest. Does that mean No work out at all.
i LOVE doing my workout dvds when my kiddys go to bed.

I'm beginning to run into that problem too. It just seems like I should be doing something. Its true the body needs a rest but mentally its taxing cause I want to be doing something and I know I shouldn't

there are some people that have to do something on a rest day. that's not me! but i know that you need to at least tone down the exercise to allow the muscles to repair (it's actually during the down time that the muscle building occurs). so rather than doing a really hard workout all the time, if you must do something i reckon you should have a decent walk or an easy jog.
  • I total feel u on this. I have been going to the gym everyday for the last 3 weeks and one of the trainers came to me and said that i should not do that and i need at least 1 day to rest because i will burn my self out. I didnt go fri and i felt like i was missing something. but that 1 day is needed so just relax and i will try to do the same.lol

If rest days are really hard, try going a gentle form of exercise instead of something intense. Go for a really long walk or just clean the house. Do something the keeps you busy and unable to exercise. While you're busy you won't have to think about it.

I feel the same way. But I had a coach back in the day tell me to treat rest days as seriously as training days, they're that important. The upside to feeling bleh on rest days though, I usually have a great session the next day.

    Hi Becca,

If you enjoy your DVD's when at home it's your choice to keep working out but the body need a rest. I feel the same in my days off so, for example, I do a walk with the family, or a swim a little...

If the body doesn't rest then injuries come... and it's always better to be off for a day than for a month!

Don't feel bad when you are in your day off... everybody knows that if important is exercising, most important is resting!

The idea of rest days came from bodybuilding and other pro atheletic pursuits, where by you HAVE to rest to increase muscle size and mend them, or to retain energy for the next big push. If you are not doing marathon running or massive amounts of weight training, it is not necessary to take a rest day. So if you really want to do your DVD ;) x

Something like a workout dvd really doesn't need a rest day. People need to realise there are no hard and fast rules in this game, and every 'rule' can be bent, or may not be relevant in every situation.

Soo i have to excercise everyday for me to stay on track, or else ill just go downhill again.. I know its important to have rest days, but i just cant! My body doesnt like it lol.

I was dying of boredom yesterday and, while knowing i'd said "rest day" I REALLY wanted to go for a run.. I bounced out of bed this morning and went instead :D

To be completely honest with you, when I was just doing an excessive amount of cardio, I didn't want a rest day either. I wanted to get up and move because I had energy and wasn't sore, and I was ready to go!

But now that I am in the gym doing heavy weight lifting 4-5 days a week, my muscles scream for a rest day!

And I am getting BETTER results for weight loss by weight lifting and resting than I ever got doing endless cardio. Don't get me wrong, I love Turbo Jam, Insanity, etc, but I would rather workout less, rest more, and lose more weight. :flowerforyou:
  • Does yoga count as a rest? I can't every take a whole day entirely off either so I usually do 2 or 3 days of cardio followed by yoga and walking. It gives me the comfort of knowing I did something without making me too tired.
