Ran today. Under 30 degrees 10 inches of snow on the side walk. Can’t believe I did it. Tomorrow I focus on limiting my snacking. I’m struggling with eating extra outside of my planned calories and they are never healthy ones.

Ran or iceskated? πŸ˜‚ I wouldn't dare run with the ice we have lol! We're UK so we have about 2cm of snow that's now ice!

@Bex953172 I'm with you on the snow and ice. Feel I shouldn't complain as others here have it even colder, but I still hate it. I keep my bins working by putting something under one corner of the lid, like a bit of stick or even some cardboard from the recycling bin. It stops the lid getting iced shut.
Glad my heating is still working, I keep it going by pulling the drainage pipe off my boiler and draining it into a bucket which I empty every couple of days.

I'm so over winter, I dislike feeling cold :)

Yesterday went a bit wrong. I had a visitor who brought food for me to cook (she needed to eat at a certain time). So I didn't know the calories to log...and I gave up and snacked, twice!

    Today is a new day

    THursday, 1.9
    1. log ALL food :)
    2. concentrate on 8+ water >:)
    3. mindful eating!!! Wait 10 minutes .. drink water.. clean a closet.. distract myself for 10 minutes. >:)
    4. try and chip away at ice off driveway!! And they are calling for more snow on friday! :)

Not the best day! I am so tired of being stuck inside.. I miss going to the gym! I am trying to do youtube exercise videos... but I do so much better when I'm at the gym. 15 minutes into a walking video.. I'm like.. thats enough! Then.. last nite got into the M&Ms again..
So today, I really need to focus. stay away from carbs and sugar!
    JFT, Frida
    1. log all food
    2. concentrate on drinking much more water
    3. try and get more ice off driveway. We are getting snow now.. but hopefully it won't be much!!
    4. clean my sewing room. I think I can put away the commode, extra walker, etc that we got for daughter. She is doing much better.. using wheelchair and walker
    5. laundry.. I am so behind
    6. figure out what to make for dinner. Any suggestions!! I am so bored with what I have been making!

Love to have dinner ideas... lower carb and no sugar! I was going to make tuna and noodles... ha.. thats carbs! Maybe beef strogonaff in the crockpot.. but I think I'm just bored and sick of cooking!!

Hour commitment - I won't eat again until dinner with DH. Can still have my dose of metamusal.

Still no electricity. Am at the coffee shop. This is getting old. The fires are still worrisome.

@more_freggies76 I wondered, when you said no power, if the fires were anywhere near you (had thought a while back you must be on the west coast somewhere). Keeping all in my prayers!

Recap 1/9 R ~ Sunny day but breezy & wind chill still in the teens. Since my finger is still healing & highly sensitive to the cold, I'll stay mostly indoors today.
    1) Make wild rice chicken bake for supper ~ yum! / limit snacks & sweets ~ several pieces of taffy (now gone) & some peanut M&Ms but not horrible / log all food / net calories zero ~ pretty dang close at -9 LOL / 80 oz. water ~ yes
    2) Min. 5000 steps ~ 8479 / treadmill or PT exercises ~ not as long or far as day before, but since I did a far bit of un-decorating (if that's a word) I was fine with
    3) Refill birdfeeders / put away nativities / bring box upstairs for fake tree (so hubby can pack up) / read / digital declutter / other? TA-DA!

JFT 1/10 F ~ About an inch of fresh snow, temps much more normal at 27F. Still doing indoor workouts until I see doctor about my finger next week.
    1) Leftovers for supper / limit snacks & sweets / log all food / net calories zero / 80 oz. water
    2) Min. 5000 steps / PT exercises
    3) Haircut & color 12:30 ~ done & continuing to let my hair grow long again... we'll see how I tolerate taking care of it / get out snowman decorations (looks empty without the Christmas stuff) / schedule V cc pmt / download txns / read / digital declutter / other?

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.
    Height 5'4"
    67 yrs old
Reside in Green Bay, WI, USA

    2025 Goals:
    1) Ultimate goal weight 150#... I'll be thrilled if I can get back down to 160# this year
    • Post weekly weigh-in on MFP for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I track daily on a separate app (for the visual). My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    • Take measurements & log on MFP every month end
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP... always better for me
    • Try new recipes Repeat goal, and very pleased with last year.
    3) Exercise 5-6x per week (minimum 4x):
    January: 5 days x1wk;
    • Walk dog 3-4 miles, treadmill when necessary in winter, weights/my home version of circuit & other x-training
    • PT (physical therapy) exercises to strengthen arthritic knees & hip flexor
      Jan 1x;
    4) MapMyWalk app You Vs. the Year 1,025km challenge started on Jan. 1
    • In 2024 I logged 656.61 miles, or 1,056.74 km & completed yearly challenge 12.10.24 :star: {finger laceration & 9 stitches 11.22.24 with only 10.36 mi to go... oops}
    • In 2023 I logged 726.88 miles, or 1,169.8 km & completed yearly challenge 11.14.23 :star:
    • In 2022 I logged 500.4 miles, or 805km {knee issues w/ arthritis}.
    5) At least 7,500 steps per day
    • I can earn $10 every month on my Medicare Advantage Plan with 10+ days of 5,000 steps:
    6) Participate in my favorite area races ~ I walk, I do not run
    • Register for Bellin 10K race
    • Register for Packers 5K
    • Maybe Annual Bridge Walk on The Mighty Mac w/ siblings (1st time 2024)
    • Register for Bellin Women's 5K
    • Add other events??? [Of my past events, two that I loved ended with COVID, another is on parkway trails/hills that involve rocks, tree roots & steep climb at the end, too hard on my arthritic knees. Another is an evening event in January, but hubby is home evenings now that he's retired, so I'm less inclined, and another winter (mid-Feb.) event has been replaced in 2025 by another earlier in Feb. The winter ones can be hard on my knees because of frigid temps, plus footing can be an issue (snow/ice) and I no longer care to participate. Wow, that's 5 events I no longer do. Sad me. Upside is the cost savings, as entry fees are higher than ever.]
    7) Be considerate and loving to hubby and have fun together... always a good idea

    8) Make efforts to keep in touch with parents, siblings and friends (most live in other towns or states)
    • Visit parents 1-2 times each month, phone calls in between ~ Mom is nearly 88, Dad 90, and live 85 miles away
      ~ planned overnight visit 1.15-1.16
    • Monthly contact with former colleagues & other friends, now that I'm retired
1.8.25 lunch planned with "real" ABC old-timers
    9) Declutter bedroom, home office, basement, books in living room... ongoing with me

My Word for the Year 2025: Judicious ~ I just like the way the word sounds, and the meaning is right for me: having or showing reason and good judgment in making decisions. I can apply this word in so many ways!

Hour commitment - I won’t eat again until tomorrow. Had early dinner with FIL.

Yep, in Los Angeles area! One major fire right over the mountain. Scary with the forceful winds!! And of course, we’re a dry tinder keg.

Any of you with snow or rain, send it our way.

Still no electricity, but am at a restaurant.

I only heard about the fires late last night. Scary stuff!

Ash's mum was rushed to Christie's Hospital again. They were messing with her medicines too much and ended up nearly killing her. They described it as "being unresponsive" but we all know she basically died and got resuscitated. But she's still here with us.
Basically she was at home and the district nurses were upping the morphine on the consultants instructions. 40 is the usual dose and she was up to 90. So the next Dr panicked. Try to give her something to counteract the amount of morphine in her system and that's when she went unresponsive.

It's horrible though. They seem to be sorting out the medicine side of things now, but she really didn't look well in the hospital. Hard to watch when you can't do anything to help.

We got there as soon as we dropped the kids off at school. Left just after lunch and then had to continue our already busy day. We had to go and grab some stuff for Saskias birthday. And then we had to pick up the kids because we ran out of time to do a food shop. Fortunately, they're well enough behaved at home that me and Ash could still go food shopping and they just stayed at home. Only takes us an hour and I check up every 15 mins. They were on their phones the whole time ,πŸ˜‚

But I'm just pooped. We're all pooped.

Food was disastrous yesterday but given the circumstances, I didn't care.

@Bex953172 sending you a big hug. My mum died of cancer during lockdown. I moved into her house to care for her and I remember how helpless I felt. It was a horrible to watch her suffering and to be able to do so little other than be there (which was important for her and my dad).

@bex953172 - I had to laugh at your steering wheel being too cold at -3C. I find that cool, -30 is too cold. It’s all what we’re used to.
The weather sure is strange this year. We have been above zero since Tuesday.

@zizzybumble - I need to stop buying chips. I think you call them crisps over there.

@cschmitz110515 - My FIL didn’t like talking on the phone, it was always a treat when I caught him in a chatty mood. Most times he would answer and call for my MIL.

@itladydee - I used determined for my word of the year in 2019. I did great until an injury sidelined me for 4 years.

@pridesabtch - my Mom’s rapid decline with Alzheimer’s slowed tremendously for a few years when we got her into the nursing home. I kept telling my brother she was lonely, he lived next door to her, I lived 3400 miles away. He would get upset with me because he was visiting her off and on all day as was my nephew. I think it’s just having someone else around that helps, not just a visit here and there. It’s a tough situation. We are not made to be alone I don’t think. Your mom is not helping her own situation though. Is she still capable of driving and going out on her own?

@mytime6630 - I’m sick and tired of cooking too. I never did enjoy it, but it’s even worse now.
I have started using the air fryer more often and that’s made it a bit better.

I had a miserable week at work and at home.
Ended up just being too tired in the evening to post after I was able to sit and too busy at work.

    So
    JFT - Sat Jan 11
    Log all Food
    1L of water
    Move for 20 Minutes

Today is DH’s 60th birthday. We are having a surprise party for him this evening at Olive Garden.
I have to make a card this afternoon.

Sorry so many are dealing with struggles. Virtual hugs to all my JFTers that need them!

Recap 1/10 F ~ About an inch of fresh snow, temps much more normal at 27F. Still doing indoor workouts until I see doctor about my finger next week.
    1) Leftovers for supper / limit snacks & sweets ~ few small pretzels, several pieces of dark choc (almost gone), all logged / log all food / net calories zero ~ green 79 / 80 oz. water  decent day
    2) Min. 5000 steps ~ >5500 / PT exercises ~ yep
    3) Haircut & color 12:30 ~ done & continuing to let my hair grow long again... we'll see how I tolerate taking care of it / get out snowman decorations (looks empty without the Christmas stuff) ~ also dusted before I put everything out / schedule V cc pmt / download txns / read / digital declutter / other? updated finance s/s for current year, loaded/ran dishwasher  TA-DA!

JFT 1/11 Sat. ~ Normal temp of 29F (-1.6C) and barely a breeze, so feeling quite nice for a winter day. Partly sunny will give way to clouds as overnight snow is predicted. We badly need it, to protect plants and for winter sports, especially the businesses that rely on it.
    1) Make love soup for supper (stupid recipe name, but it was on the internet; ground beef is defrosting) / limit snacks & sweets / log all food / net calories zero / 80 oz. water
    2) Min. 5000 steps / other?
    3) Put away clean dishes / vacuum downstairs rooms ~ 1 done already / read / digital declutter / other declutter 15 min. / call Mom / other?

Weather is cooperating, so hubby and I are about to take dog for walk around neighborhood! Dog is healing well from her toe amputation in Nov. and we are easing her into walks with snow on the ground and winter temps.

    About me:

    January: 5 days x1wk;
    • Walk dog 3-4 miles, treadmill when necessary in winter, weights/my home version of circuit & other x-training
    • PT (physical therapy) exercises to strengthen arthritic knees & hip flexor
      Jan 1x;
    4) MapMyWalk app You Vs. the Year 1,025km challenge started on Jan. 1
    • In 2024 I logged 656.61 miles, or 1,056.74 km & completed yearly challenge 12.10.24 :star: {finger laceration & 9 stitches 11.22.24 with only 10.36 mi to go... oops}

I can't say that I doing very well this week. I think I just miss getting out to gym and walking.. I need more sunshine!! But, things are looking better for the rest of the week!
    JFT, Sat
    1. log all food. I've been not doing this because I don't even remember what I am eating.. too much grazing and nibbling on stuff!
    2. concentrate on water. I know it makes me feel better.. so why do I struggle with drinking more water
    3. organize recipes. I have so many that I print out.. some I try, some are just stuffed in a notebook. So try and organize.
    4. look for new recipes.. healthy ones. Just get some variety
    5. scalloped potatoes and ham for dinner. I know.. lots of carbs.. but hubby loves it, it uses up ham leftover from xmas.. and a nice comfy meal on a cold snowy day. Eat accordingly during the day.
    6. concentrate on NO sugar. I need to get sugar out of my system! Sugar just makes me crave all day long.

Hugs to everyone that is going through so much right now! <3

Yesterday was another disastrous day. It was Saskias birthday so there was pizzas and cake and snacks.
But I don't think I've gone so far where I can't correct it later in the week. It will be hard work for the rest of the week but I think I can manage it. Damage limitation lol!

I dunno what it is about when my kids have friends over. I feel stuck. I feel like I can't carry out my normal activities. I don't know why.
Also need to have a word with Saskia when her friend leaves. She's a great kid but she changes so much when friends are round. I don't mind it, it's actually normal to change the way you socialise Infront of your peers. But what I don't like is she becomes alot more disrespectful towards me. She EXPECTS stuff and she makes demands rather than requests. And shes so horrible to her sisters.
When I picked up her friend yesterday, all her brothers and sisters were all over her and doing pictures all sorts. But Saskia won't even let her sisters sit in the same room. I've told her it's not her birthday today now and they did really well giving them space yesterday and now she needs to stop being mean.

Ash hit the gym, think he needed to. And he's gonna go see his mum again either today or tomorrow.
Theres just so much going on, my head's up my butt, Ashs mood is very up and down so it's a bit like treading on eggshells because I'm bearing some of the brunt of it, I don't argue back at the minute, just taking it on the chin. He doesn't mean it, I knew this was coming and he's finding it really hard to navigate because he has his own mental health struggles. Every time his mum goes in the hospital now it's a worry if she'll make it back out again.

I'm deffo stressing eating. Which I don't want to do because then I'm stress-dieting trying to get the extra weight off again.

Sorry for the less so happy posts..funny how things can change in a week.

    2) Min. 5000 steps ~ 8000 / other? hubby & I walked dog 1.07 mi around neighborhood, and dog did great, not limping or going slow at the end or favoring her foot in any way = yay!

JFT 1/12 Sunday ~ A little snow fell overnight, turned to light mist this morning, so slippery roads. Fortunately, all major streets have been treated with road salt, only have to really watch it on the side streets like our neighborhood.

@bex953172 - I called my girls out on their behaviour in front of their friends. Sometimes the friends needed it too. After a while the friends invited the other girl to play too. It’s a tightrope raising them. I really didn’t like ages 9-13 or so. They want to be a kid and a teen and they really push their boundaries and you can’t speak to them without a meltdown, but this too shall pass and you’ll have wonderful teens that come to you.

Sorry Ash’s Mom is so sick, a difficult time for all of you.

We had Rodger’s party yesterday. Most of the attendees were the girls friends from their teen years. They are all such amazing people.
