Ideas for those without internet access?

Well, my sister and mom are ready to get started. Problem is, sis does not have a computer at her house and works in a day care center infant room and does not have good access to the internet. (no smartphone). Does anyone have a good calorie tracking tool they can recommend using good old fashion pen and paper? Maybe a pocket size book to help her make choices and count the cals? A good tracking sheet? Anything similar? She just had a baby a few months ago and really wants to get going but is feeling discouraged. She knows how well MFP has worked for me but does not have the same access to the web. With a new baby, money is tight. Any advice would be wonderful.

I know its a pain ...but manually tracking would probably also work. Its just a matter of them knowing where they need to be and go from there.

The bookstore should have something in the health section. Quite a few years ago, I tracked carbs with a carb food diary I purchased at Barnes & Noble. It was spiral bound; narrow probably 6"X8"; pink in color. One could use it for tracking cals as well.

In the past I used Calorie King. They have a website to look up calorie info, but also, you can get their calorie counter book at local bookstores, or on line. It is full of good info about calories, fat, healthy eating, fiber, etc, plus it contains calories counts for both grocery foods and popular restaurants.
They also sell a food and exercise journal, which might be good for someone just starting to learn how to track, or who hasn't done it in a while. I just had a cute spiral notebook that I used strictly to track what I ate, my workouts, how I felt, and my progress. For me personally, keeping track is vital to my success.

All of the above are great suggestions. If she could get a book, a simple form could be created and printed for her that she could use to track on if money is tight.

Probably just as important...whatever method to track that she uses, she, and your mom, will need the support system that programs like MFP and Weight Watchers provide. At least for me personally, the sense of accountability, support, friendship, and motivation I get from my friends and the boards on the site are as important as the tools that are provided. You can be that lead support...maybe form a support group with the three of you. You could even share items you learn from your friends and the boards on here. Just my thoughts.

Good luck to all of you!
