Really excited to share have lost 22lbs since Christmas! Dieting has never really worked in the past, likely because they were fad diets. Am really trying to focus on a low-carb diet but am finding difficulty getting enough protein daily.
Have never tried protein powder before and am wondering if anyone has had success with them and if there are any that taste good in coffee?

Way to go, that is great to hear!
I don't drink hot coffee just cold brew. But instead of adding in cream and sugar I add in a protein shake to get my flavor. I don't use protein powder but instead will pour in one of the premier protein shakes. Chocolate, vanilla, Chocolate mint and cafe latte all tase good mixed with the coffee. They have 160 cals, 30g of protein, 4g of carb (3g fiber), and 3g fat.4 -
Great job on the initial weight loss, keep it up.
I'm usually not a fan of protein powders except as a last resort if you can find alternatives like the above. I have used them some in smoothies and such, but most were more higher calorie and carb recovery type smooties. I've also seen mention of some people really liking protein "fluff" where they whip it up to change the texture.
Some of the bars are fairly tasty, enough that in some cases they resemble a sweet treat or something. And some are good warmed up as well. Just as with powder or shakes, you have to watch the carb content a bit, but some are very low carb.
The below thread might help as well, and give you ideas on how to "sneak" in more protein in your regular eating pattern.

Congratulations! As someone who is 45 lbs down out of 120, I recommend focusing on smaller interim goals. Looking at the big picture, and how far you have to go, can be daunting. I had a goal of 30 lbs by the end of last year (made it plus some) and want to be to the 1/2 way point by my birthday in June - going to buy new clothes for that one!
Although I agree that you should get most of your protein from natural sources, adding a little protein powder isn't bad (just don't make that your main protein source). I use protein powder for breakfast. Look at the powders, some are better than others, and they all can have a little bit of a different taste. I've used some that I like, and others that I don't. I use Premier protein (powder is the same as the prepped shakes, but cheaper.) I guess you can put it into coffee, but probably can't get a lot of it in a cup.2 -
Congrats - keep on working on it but remember you are making lifetime changes so don't deprive yourself or go overboard or in my experience you'll burn out.
I agree with rms62003 about smaller goals... I'm doing 10% at a time - so lost 32.5 down to 293, now working on 29, then it will be 26, etc. I was diagnosed type 2 in October - it's turned out to be the kick in the butt I needed!
I like the RX bars - 12 grams of protein and quite satisfying. I cut them into smaller pieces. Royo Bread is a little pricey but it's been great for me - doesn't cause a spike for me. It makes an amazing grilled cheese.0 -
Keep up the good work! I'm down 10 lbs in 3 weeks. I started my 4th week yesterday. To answer your inquiry, I´ve added protein powder to my coffee and like it. It serves as an alternative to the dairy/nut milk. It makes the coffee creamy with the added benefits of protein. Another way I get protein in easily is with my daily collagen intake. I make caramel apple tea with salted caramel collagen - aaaamazing! Give it a try and let me know what you think.1

Protein powder is safe in moderation and very effective for meeting protein goals. Never tried them with coffee before, that thickness might not be appealing. There are coffee flavored protein powders though (premier protein is a good one).
Anyway for an example of what I do once a day, usually after a workout:
Gold Standard whey protein, mix 1 scoop with 8 oz half water half milk
24g protein, 3g carb, 1.5g fat (not counting the milk)
Easy, safe, tastes good. Good luck, keep it up.2 -

Thanks for the suggestions! I agree focusing on the interim goals and celebrating them when achieved is helpful.1 -
ill use a scoop (10 g protein) or two and shake in shaker of Arbonne vegan protein powder (they make coffee flavor which is yum) and add to almond milk for more protein- usually at night if i havent gotten protein goals which also helps not eat heavy at night and satisfies my sweet craving. (in a pinch, will just put powder in shaker cup and add cold water so I always have a healthy back up on me if I cant get to a healthy food) Congrats!!0
