Nordic Walking

Hello. Hoping to find others who have discovered Nordic Walking. Wondering if anyone has noted better fitness (and faster) with NWing vs regular walking. Also too, if anyone has noted improved injury recovery (like knees, hips) with this style of walking. 🙂 ~Yaél

I have been interested in this for a while. I often use my trekking poles to exercise walk, and find they are a great way to recruit more body into the activity. they also force better posture. Using nordic poles rather than trekking poles supposedly refines the motion for additional benefits. I am 70yo and have made a lifetime goal of *not* walking much, lol, preferring swimming and cycling. But walking can be year round, and just basically easy out the front door. i walk faster with better strides with the poles and am pretty sure they help my knees, as i am carrying extra weight. Granted,I am a little self-conscious using poles, but I push through that.

I don't do "proper" Nordic walking, but I do use trekking poles. I have a genetic condition that's caused arthritis in almost all my major joints. I walk with a cane about 1/2 the time and have more trouble if the surface I'm walking on isn't flat & level. Unfortunately, I also love hiking. If I let the poles take part of my weight, like a cane but with better traction on trails, I can stay out longer & go farther without being crippled the next day.
