I don't use salt in my food. Why does the tracker so so much salt?

Even if you aren't using the "fried eggs" or "beef lasagna" generic entries, this is still a crowdsourced database. Every entry that you use should be checked and cross referenced with an outside source. The USDA database is good for whole foods, otherwise the manufacturer of the food is a good start. Once you've verified it and logged it, that entry will show up in your frequent foods, but checking things out the first time is always a good idea.1

You don't have to add salt to your food. Salt is naturally in some food as all animals need it to function, including us. However if you are using processed foods like soups or frozen meals those usually have alot of salt added to them. 1 serving in a can of corn has 300 mg so that is 1050 mg per can. I'm sure you will be able to find your culprit by reading nutrition labels3

The tracker tracks sodium, not salt. Many people enter it incorrectly, entering salt amounts instead of sodium. So it is notoriously largely inaccurate when tracking sodium in your diet.1 -
Also, if you use other people's database entries for whole dishes, like "fried eggs" or "meat lasagna", they may've added lots of salt in making their version, even if you added none to yours.1

& the shocking reality of sodium for anyone who has never tracked it before - It is ridiculously high in the American market for processed foods. Sodium, which you do need, is also in most whole foods but to a much lower degree.
Unless you have a specific issue with Sodium you many not need to be too concerned.

I forgot what it was I ate the other day--I think it was a whole can of soup--2 servings--that was over the days limit all by itself.
Lesson learned, check the Sodium before you eat. Oops, make that before you buy.2 -
