Hey well done for the larger losers around in this thread (who would be very welcome to visit the aforementioned group ;-) https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/133315-larger-losers)

I think it has more to do with what's "in" at this time and also with the fact that your changes are recent.

The first few years people who knew me and had not seen me for a while invariably asked to confirm that I was well... and whether I had surgery. This was particularly prevalent (at 100%) amongst non bariatric surgeons I was interacting with in a non medical setting during that time frame. It got to be a joke almost with one of them sincerely thinking I was pulling his leg.

As the years have gone by... it is almost as if people do not quite believe that I was obese most of my life. In fact more than once I've been told (TOLD, not commented) that: "well you don't have to watch what you eat like I do"....

... which is extremely funny when you consider that I still log most of my food by the gram and using researched (university of Minnesota or usda) entries or package labels... and even have a food scale in the car mostly to log take out fast food (and sometimes even sit down restaurant food: especially fish and chips!) because... WHY NOT??? *especially* if I am eating there by myself.

(Please note that watching does not equal restricting and restricting also does not equal watching as I've discovered over the years. The two are, or can be made to be, independent. Plus. guess what. my health is more important than whatever rando whoever thinks about me even if they are a relative or work or play associate! Thus I universally extend a middle finger... or two... (possibly extended mentally as opposed to physically)... to whoever doesn't approve of whatever it is that I do! )

LOL, so true. Also, seems like so, so many people desperately wanted my weight loss to be about something, anything extra-special unique about me that was oh-so-sadly (in their minds) not remotely possible for them: Surgery, energetic exercise, giving up chocolate forever, not eating bread, whatever. Something too hard, even impossible.

    (more snip)

Yes. I've gotten that, too. It's hilarious. I'm happy/satisfied with my maintenance eating routine, but people saying I can "eat whatever I want, and not have to worry". No. Hedonist that I am, I want it ALL. But I also want my future self to be healthy and happy, so I don't eat all the things all the time any more.

Moreover, it's also not the case that my lifelong-slim friends routinely eat large amounts and never think about moderating to stay at a healthy weight, either. They may not calorie count or anything close to that, may never have done so . . . but they cut back snacks if their waistband gets snug, stop eating when sated but not actually full (a totally alien impulse for me), etc. Probably some people are effortlessly slim without effort or attention, but I think not many.

I love this stop eating when sated but not actually full!

If I am "very very quiet" I might hear that--occasionally.

But the "I want to be full before I stop" sure seems to hang around the house more often and even more so it hangs out around the restaurants--and travelling, oh definitely hangs out around there!

And the "be full on cookies and chocolates", well.... that one has some issues with working out for the calories too! ;-)

So, you know... it's easier to keep a 10% or so off base tally than sit there trying to second guess myself all the time

I get , "did you have lipo?" more than I get "are you on the big O?" I am on the Big O and I hope that when I reach my goals I have some skin cut off so it is what it is. I am training for a full marathon. I was 365# now I'm 215#. Was 33% fat now 24% fat. My blood test work is perfect. I'm thankful for the support I receive and I'm thankful for the haters. I use the hate as accelerant for my training.

    Now that's an accomplishment!!

Thanks brother. @tommy2ton3rocks . I'm getting back to my 1990's form of 220# at 17% bodyfat. Along the way I've been training for endurance running events. I've done 4 half marathons and have more to go on my way to the full 26.2 mile run in Nashville, TN in April, 26 2025. I live in fear daily of the first 8 miles of hills in Nashville of the first one third of the course. What can I say? It takes all kinds of motivational techniques to make us work. I also wanted to say good job on the weights. two plates is respectable and you are beyond that. People do ask me if I lift weights in addition to my running and my answer is always , I should be doing more resistance training. I get it in but I need to be way more consistent with that aspect of training.
