Going to give up

I am so tired of trying to take the weight off, nothing seems to work. I don't really know what to do anymore or what is wrong with me..Everyone else seems so successful and I just can't seem to get past this....It feels like I 'am fighting a monster that always wins..

    Keep fighting. There is no good outcome in giving up! You have to stick with this for your health!! Look at me and my picture. That is what happens when you give up. What is your sodium intake? How much water are you drinking? Have you measured yourself lately? You can do this. b/c I can.

    DON'T GIVE UP! I felt the same way the other day - I'm on a Team Beach Body program so luckily I have a fitness coach. In the past 8 weeks I've only lost 13 pounds! So I spoke with her and guess what...I WASN'T EATING ENOUGH! My Fitness Pal recommends like 1250 calories for me but in reality I should be eating 1700 calories a day! That was hindering my weight loss believe it or not! Hang in there!!!!!

    Do NOT give up!!! Not everyone loses weight the same. It may be super easy for some people to lose it, while a lot of us have to work EXTRA hard just to lose a pound or two. Giving up will only make matters worse. :) If you are trying really hard and still not seeing any results, talk to a doctor. They can help you and point you in the right direction. No one ever said this was going to be easy. Even the people who ARE successful worked their butts off to get to where they are today.

    Don't give up.. Stop thinking of it as a diet. It is a chance to change your life. I have the same issues, I have times where I just get really down and depressed. It seems as if nothing will ever get better. I have realized that times like that I need to do something for me. I have started to make it a point that if I feel that way I am going to go do something to make myself feel sexy. Whether it be a new outfit, makeup, hair cut or style. SOMETHING.. you just have to get a better outlook on things. It is hard when your on the inside of that weight loss bubble and watching others around you just shedding the weight like water. It isn't easy for all of us but remember when you do finally reach that goal weight you will have that much more reason to be proud that you worked twice as hard as the others and you finally did it.     What's the alternative? If you're gonna be fat you might as well be the healthiest fatty u can be! I for one want to lose weight but if I gotta stay fat forever then by god I'm not going to be unhealthy and I'm NOT going to settle for mediocrity at own hand. U can give up on losing weight if u want but don't give up on pursing radiant health for yourself.

    Don't give up!!!! You CAN do this. There are so many reasons you may not be losing right now but don't give in. Are you recording every single thing you put in your mouth? Are you weighing and measuring? Drinking enough water? Eating enough? Take it one day at a time. It has taken me 7 weeks to lose just 10 pounds but I know I'm going to get there because I am creating good habits and I'm in it for life. It's not a diet for me; it's about eating the way I should be eating. I am not perfect every day but I'm 100% better than I used to be. I believe in you. YOU CAN!

    Don't give up.

    None of us make good choices every day or every time.
    I work on the theory that each time I choose to eat something healthy or say NO to something unhealthy that's a little victory.
    You don't see the numbers on the scale move each time you have one of these little victories but you are changing your habits and your self and that is what will pay off in the long term.

    If you are getting fed up with the scale then put it away for a month. Pick other goals - like healthy snacks every day, exercise 5 times a week, eating a good breakfast, cutting out/down soda or alcohol.
    These small goals are much more achievable and they do add up.

    You CAN do this!

    Try aiming for smaller goals. I noticed in your signature that your goals are very aggressive. I've lost about the same amount of weight your aiming for, but it took me over 2 years! Don't be disappointed if your results aren't quick, half the battle is sticking with it.
    Sure there are stories of people who lost lots of weight fast, but for most people it takes time. Hang in there, and take the small steps. Remember when you use to only see the scale go up, and then treasure the times when you can see it go down, even if it is only a pound or two at a time!

    Your weight loss goals need to be based on science, and also aimed at a healthier future with LASTING weight loss. There are no quick, fixes. I do not have any time lines on my weight loss. I am working with a weight loss specialist, a doctor through my health care system. She asked me , how much do yo want to lose? I said 70 pounds. She asked how long do you expect that to take? I said at least a year. She nodded, now knowing she is working with a patient who means business and also knows what's real and what isn't. To lose more than a pound a week runs the risk of forming habits that can't be sustained FOREVER. THIS IS MIND OVER MATTER. You're not going to let this calorie thing kick your *kitten* are you?

    What's your eating like? Your diary is locked up pretty tight for anybody to help you.

    Instead of basing your goals on actual pounds, how about activity goals? Like
    * I'm going to cut out sugar
    * I'm going to walk x miles a day
    * I'm going to keep to x number of calories

    Just basing your goals on weight can be very frustrating, as it seems to take forever. Remember the only sure fire was to fail is to give up!!! What if success is just around the next corner? What are your giving up anyway? Hope for a better life? Yourself?

    GH, I have already sent you a private message which you have acknowledged. But I see you are still struggling. And I know a lot of us struggle. So - although I can hardly say I am an "expert" - here are a few of my tips (that I myself am trying to follow):
    1. Understand that a lot of us are also struggling (I know I am). As everyone else has said above. Don't quit! Realise there is no alternative.
    2. Don't compare apples with oranges. I know I cannot compete with a spritely 20 year old mfp friend who is clearly going to have more energy and a higher metabolism - even if they are heavier than me! If its getting you down, stop looking at others and comparing. I have come across many people who seem to burn 2,000 calories in 20 minutes, have impeccable diaries yet still seem to be struggling.
    3. Even if you want to give up, keep logging and be honest! Don't worry about what others will think. Don't worry if you are eating the wrong foods. Don't even worry if you are going "over goal". Do it so that you can learn about yourself. I have arguably learned more about myself from my bad eating days than the "good" ones. Why? Because I have seen how easy it is to mindlessly overindulge in high fat/sugar foods yet still seem hungry! Personally I have found that some simple foods such as porridge in the morning, avoiding sugary foods, too much bread etc and drinking more water actually makes me "feel" fuller on days when I am disciplined enough to follow what I have observed. Even if you lose no weight from logging, you will at least learn a lot more about yourself - and hopefully you will be able to get a plan together sometime, somewhere down the track.
    4. Exercise more. Yes I know this is harder said than done. I found that I have had to force my mindset on this one. But I have realised that walking is one simple exercise that I can incorporate every day. There are days when I don't feel like walking, so I force myself to do 10 minutes. No biggie. And there are days when I feel like walking a lot more (particularly on days when I feel motivated by having logged a lot of bad eating days...)
    5. Make small changes, think LONG TERM. Don't worry about losing 2 pounds or even 1 pound per week. Keep it modest. Keep it realistic. Aim for a half pound a week loss. It's far better for you to take a year or two to reach your goal than never reaching your goal! Think about that.

    Sorry if any of the above - or any more my advice sounds a little condescending. Realise that I am trying to reinforce these values in my own mind too. And I have much to learn from others which is why these forums are so great.

    One last thing GH. I disagree with you when you imply that you have not done so well. You actually have! I know for a fact that when you stuck to logging, you were doing very well indeed. Keep it up!

    I know that sometimes I just have to take a little break from all the tracking and measuring and thinking about every little thing I eat. I have found that I still make good choices on those days when I'm not tracking. I've been doing this since May and have lost 12lbs. That's a whopping 3lbs per month! But, that's 12lbs that's gone. I was thinking about giving up today, but I got on mfp and found your post and read the replys and was motivated. It will all be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end!

    Thank you every one for the great advise you have given me. It's not just the eating and logging, I am going through a lot of personal issues, that I have no control over. I am very frustrated, I think that is why I have been doing so poorly over the past couple of weeks. But, all of your posts have helped me re think a lot of things. One person in particular has been making me feel bad about my self and I am constantly getting mixed messages. But, Thank you to all of you for taking the time out to be concerned and give me some great advice....It means so much to me....:smile:
