Do I need to constantly change my weight in the app?

I’ve think I changed it weekly or does the app take in your calories and changes your weight for u? And if I have to do it manually where do I change it?

    Welcome to MfP @rodbrown2021159

well there’s the rub. For some users it does seem to change it automatically, but not for others. It’s been a subject of conjecture here

I update mine every so often.

To do it, simply go to the goals tab and make sure everything is current: current weight, goal weight, goal per week, activity level.

You shouldn’t have to do it weekly. I updated mine every month or two when I was losing, but I lost at a pretty good clip.

Pick mile stones. When I hit 20lbs I will change the goal. The difference in calories isn't going to make that big of an impact for a few pounds.

The only way it will change your body weight automatically is if you have a compatible body weight scale or app that syncs that information.

Yes, some people report that it automatically changes calorie goal when they change their weight, but that's a different question. FWIW, it has never automatically changed my calorie goal unless I go back through goal settings, which can trigger a calorie goal change.

Note that if you manually log exercise in MFP and use MFP's resulting exercise calorie estimate, it uses your currently-recorded body weight in estimating those calories. It's not a big deal to be a few pounds off, but never updating body weight could result in seriously overestimating exercise calories on those typed-in entries.

Weekly is fine, but I think doing it less often - maybe every 10 pounds/5 kilos down - would be fine, too. Your call.

If you update your weight, be sure you're doing that as a "Progress" update, not changing your starting weight in your profile.

If you need more details about where to do a progress update, I'd be happy to post a screen shot if you tell us whether you're using web browser MFP or the phone/tablet app.
