I've got a polar FT4 and I've used it a few times in a chlorinated pool. It did alright. It would lose signal every now and then, always got it back quickly if I stood up and it was out of the water, and generally kept it enough to track while I was swimming. Not 100%, but servicable. I've also worn it briefly in the ocean, and that didn't work at all.
I haven't had any problems with its watertightness from those events, but the manual suggests not pushing buttons while its submerged.

I use my FT4 when I go swimming; the calorie burn seems accurate and it works perfectly. Just don't push the buttons while you're underwater and you'll be good to go.

I love being able to see my calorie burn while swimming!

Hi, I got a FT4M Polar for my birthday, last night was 3rd time I normally do between 60-70laps (25metres pool) in an hour mainly freestyle with drills; in my youth I was a very active competitive swimmer, but I have been so shocked how little calories I actually burn last night 301Kcals! Honestly I was gutted! Its is accurate, I would have thought about somewhere between 400-500 per hour.

    Tips:-
After each swim I pop the receiver and watch in a glass of water to try and remove the chlorine.
Place the chest strap tight under your costume, it does need to be tighter than land based activities to pick up your Heart Rate
I don't press any buttons when in the water, I set it and move to calories as the beep tells me that my HR has dipped.

I do love it and no I won't over eat, but part of me wishes it was more calories that were burn, Ive tried to keep postive but thinking about the toning the swimming is doing too!

    Hope this helps, Shel

I've tried mine in the pool 3 times and it didn't work any of those times - it's a bromine pool so I'm not sure if that makes a difference! Good luck
