Carol - hugs for you. Keep up the exercises. I hope it all resoves soon.

Super lunch at Shandiz with Max. I walked all the way there, about a mile, keeping up with the boys! And I felt fairly fresh when I got there. Gorgeous food, nice chat, but not cheap! I hope I will be able to walk longer distances soon. I would love to be able to walk to The Regency from here. That's 2 miles or more. I used to walk everywhere. I am feeling so much more capable in myself.

I'm posting this photo, not because I want you to see P and G, but because I absolutely love this view from the National Portrait Gallery restaurant. The roofscape is lovely. The food is expensive, but the view is worth it, if you are ever in London. Yes, that is Nelson, on his column.

G is staying up with P for one night.

    Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Rita - so glad you like the HOKA shoes! Many people swear by them. Also good news about your son and the interest the therapist and family support person are taking. Looks like a giant step in his future care. Grateful to hear this. And veerrryyy interesting that the one campground extended a job offer. Do you think you'd like this better than the other park you'd previously decided on? So good to have options!

Heather, I meant to ask - did you go to a girl's only school? I don't see any gents in the photo. Sounds like you had a good time and neat you'll be going to Tate Modern Art Gallery. I too shy away from offers to pick me up or drive me home from well-meaning friends. In most cases, as long as I can manage my own wheels, I'm going by myself. Show up when I want and leave when I want and take a detour if I want. And by the way, proud of you for extending your walking distance.

Carol - I too have a big floater in my right eye. Sometimes it's no bother and other times it seems I'm looking through a veil. Hope a new prescription helps you. Best of luck with your knee strengthening exercises. All along I've been doing a few "sink squats" - hanging onto the sink and doing a squat, very slowly. Come to find out, the physical terrorist had me doing something very similar.

Why I can't allow sweets in the house:

Tuesday morning after 7 am PT I decided to stop in at the grocery store. First time in a long time, I grabbed a small package of peanut M&M's, a box of Nonni's Biscotti which I used to love to dip in coffee, and a pint of "real" ice cream that contained only cream, milk, sugar and marionberries. By bedtime last night, they all had been consumed. That's a 36 hour time period. Everything was delicious, but a harsh reminder to keep this type of stuff out of the house.

Busy morning today - Camry tires rotated at Les Schwab, then an oil change. Les Schwab's inspection showed my front brakes wearing a little but I think I'm good for quite a while. The Rapid Lube place told me to get the transmission fluid changed one of these days. I honestly don't think it's that bad, but I'm glad they pointed it out. It took me 1 1/2 years to put 3,000 miles on the car. They also used to "top off" the antifreeze and windshield wiper fluid for free. This time, they charged $10 for the antifreeze. I normally can take care of it myself but let them take care of it.

I noticed both places had very few customers. Normally, Les Schwab is backed up with vehicles waiting when they open at 8. This morning, several bays remained open. And at he Rapid Lube shop - there's normally a small wait. They have 2 service bays. I was the only customer the whole time I was there. It gave me more time to yak with the employees, lol. I really like that small family owned business and hope they can make it.

Lanette, I have been off sugar for a few months now, but wanted something special for a rainy day lunch, so made pancakes with real maple syrup. I usually keep sweets out of the house as well, other than ones I make without sugar.

Jell-O sugar free chocolate fudge pudding is lovely and chocolaty, and when made with skim lactose free milk is low in calories, good protein, and doesn't upset my stomach. Even better, doesn't make me crave sugar. We'll see if the maple syrup triggers it. It definitely made me sleepy! Had to go to sleep for an hour after!

Did HIIT today. Normally, I would do my thing in the pool and then join the water aerobics class. But since I can’t do that I’ve been using the rowing machine. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Biggest Loser 30 day jumpstart DVD and then some pilates.

Mo – I’d prefer not to bake as much. But Vince likes his desserts. To me, a fantastic dessert is a ripe juicy peach. So I bake mainly for him. As far as BK is concerned, yes I went back the day after I got home. They did hire someone in my absence. She doesn’t speak English so they thought that prep would be OK for her. I don’t know how it’s working. Don’t worry, you’ll never get muscular. Women just don’t have the testosterone. I’m glad you do other exercises than just step. How I wish we had a water zumba! I just don’t like all the impact on my knees, which is a reason I don’t run. I need to get back into step aerobics. See, when I had that “callous” on my foot I didn’t want to put pressure so I skipped step. But now that it’s better time to get back to step (and the rebounder)

Re – had guys from Exodus Works come. They called around 10 this morning and were here around 11. Three guys planted all the bushes. Only cost $75. I did give each of the guys a $20 tip. They did it all in less than an hour. It would have taken me anywhere from 5 to 7 days to do. I’m just so undecided if I want tile or wood flooring in the kitchen, so I’ll be looking for what you finally decide since the condo is in FL. What is this 3D imaging thing? Is it a program you have or need to go somewhere to use?

I’m going to remember that there is a drill bit that will make a 1 gallon hole

barbie – I hear ya loud and clear about doing things yourself. I would much prefer to do it my way. Vince has always said that he’d only get me a maid if I absolutely needed one because he knows me and I’d clean before she got here because I didn’t want her to see it dirty and I’d clean after she left because she didn’t do it my way. So I hear ya, I’m the same way

Carol– hope those floaters float away

    M– healing thoughts

Rita– I don’t know if an auger would work right now because it’s on a hill and I’m the only one doing it. Vince can’t help me to hold it in place. But I am going to remember it if I ever need one. From what I saw on uTube they are pretty heavy and I don’t think I could hold it on such a slope. If it were flat ground, I probably could. But in the end, the guys did it. It was only $75 (plus I gave them a tip) for an hour and all 7 bushes are planted! It would have take me 5-7 DAYS to do it, they did it in less than an hour. So glad about your son

Lanette– why do you think those places had so few customers?

Went to ceramics tonight. They used to have a sign that you could only paint pieces you bought there, but tonight the sign was down. One guy was telling me that he told the woman in charge that she’d be losing a lot of business because they don’t have a lot of what people want.

I ordered a pair of HOKA shoes yesterday. These things are so expensive, I really hope they last a long time. The sandals are SO comfortable! I will toss all my other foot ware out except for a pair of slip on sandals to use as slippers.

On our way to town yesterday, we stopped at 2 different campgrounds to inquire about cost, etc and one of them contacted us last night to ask if we wanted to work for them! We are talking about this and need to go back to talk to them further about this offer.

Rita … I used to love my 3 pair of HOKA shoes, but two pair are wearing out and my feet have changed. I am planning to go back to the place I got them and get re-tested. They've got a treadmill set up and they film your gait and make note of your foot issues, etc., then recommend shoes that should help. That's how I got onto HOKAs in the first place. HOKAs should still work, but perhaps a different variety.

I had a little look at New Balance shoes and the ones that seem commonly available here would be good for my husband, I think. Most of them have quite high heels and slope down toward the toes. That is not at all good for me, but with his Achilles tendon, they'd likely work for him.

Would this offer to work be paid work … as opposed to where you are now where all the work you do is voluntary?
